**Leadhand - Park Operations Infrastructure (Continuous)**

**Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department**

**POSITION FUNCTION**

Coordinate and participate in the construction, installation and maintenance of park infrastructure, sport and playground structures and equipment.

**KEY DUTIES**

Coordinate, assign, review and participate in the work of approximately 9 staff involved in the construction, installation and maintenance of parks infrastructure; ensure procedures, schedules and established performance and safety standards are met; provide employee training and input to performance appraisals; complete daily time sheets.

Assemble, construct, repair, paint, transport and install various park, playground and sports field infrastructure such as park furniture, pedestrian and vehicle barriers, signage, play structures, pathways, sports and fitness equipment, chain link and wood fences, stairs, retaining walls, drainage and drinking fountains; construct forms and pour concrete pads; conduct routine inspections of park, playground and sports field infrastructure.

Operate and maintain various tools and equipment such as drill, saw, grinder, compactor, jackhammer, level, trencher, operate vehicles, tractors and excavators.

Perform equipment maintenance; report repairs required and damage to equipment to supervisor and mechanic shop; maintain fuel and equipment supply for staff at various work sites; complete daily work records and equipment slips; may be required to occasionally respond to enquiries from the public, City staff and outside agencies regarding general parks information.

Determine appropriate materials, staff resources and equipment required daily; order equipment and materials from Public Works, City stores and outside suppliers; maintain a variety of records, technical field inspection reports and as-constructed drawings.

Review the installations of work carried out by contractors and outside agencies to ensure compliance with specifications; conduct site inspections at various locations to review work progress and requirements.

Perform related duties where qualified.

**INDEPENDENCE**

Work is performed according to established procedures and programs or is assigned by supervisor.

Work is reviewed through meetings with supervisor.

Issues such as major changes to approved designs, approved budgets or staffing matters are referred to supervisor.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**

Work outside in all weather conditions. (continuous)

**KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES**

Organize and prioritize the work of a unit.

Basic level operation of a computer.

Use hand tools and power equipment.

Supervise a small staff.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Deal effectively with the public and outside agencies.

Read and interpret drawings and plans.

Maintain accurate records.

Work safely following established safe work procedures.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification**:
High school graduation.

Completion of 2-year technical diploma or completion of 4-year BC Trades Qualification in landscape horticulture, construction or an equivalent Diploma or Trades Qualification in a related field. (4 years)

CPSI Playground Inspector Certification (32 hours)

Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.

**Experience**:
2 years of related experience including supervisory experience.

**OTHER**:
May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.

**Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, 40 hour work week**

**$42.30 per hour, Pay Grade 12 (Under Review)**
