Nanaimo, Canada Connective Support Society Full time

**Position Title**: Restorative Justice Case Manager
**Wage Grid**:$23.00-$27.00 per hour starting wage.
**Schedule: 20-30 hours/week**
**Reports to**: Program Managers

**Connective Support Society Nanaimo **(formerly Nanaimo Region John Howard Society) is one of 3 self-managed Connective Support Societies in BC who share the same mission to respond to local need. This mission is: We strengthen communities by supporting people experiencing barriers so they can achieve greater independence. In Nanaimo, our programs include: addiction treatment, restorative practices, community reintegration, employment, community health and wellbeing.

**Program Description**:
Our program is located on the traditional and ancestral lands of the Snuneymuxw Nation.
Restorative justice has strong origins in Indigenous peacemaking practices and faith-based accountability processes globally; Indigenous communities all over the world have long practiced elements of what we now call restorative justice. Connective Nanaimo’s Restorative Justice Program offers alternatives to the criminal justice system for youth and adults in the Nanaimo region who have been impacted by crime or conflict. The program receives referrals from Crown Counsel, RCMP, Probation and community. Program participants come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have been impacted by a diverse range of offences. As such, the Restorative Justice Program facilitates a wide range of out-of-court and parallel-to-court processes, including restorative dialogues, resolution agreements and diversionary programming. In cases requiring culturally appropriate processes, the program consults with Elders, Native Court Workers, and community members. Participation is voluntary and processes are inclusive, trauma-informed, and needs
- based. The program aims to provide supportive and safe opportunities for victims of crime to engage in the process; we offer affected parties a spectrum of participation options in acknowledgment of their unique wants and needs. The program works closely with participants to identify the root causes of the harm in order to put in place preventative interventions and supports, while collaborating with the community, victims of crime, and other relevant parties to resolve conflict, promote accountability, and foster healing. The program utilizes volunteers to act as support persons/mentors for youth participants and/or contribute meaningfully to restorative dialogues.

**Summary of Position**:
The Restorative Justice Case Manager will support the Restorative Justice Team in most programmatic operations, predominantly case management and volunteer coordination. This role includes administrative work, acting as a facilitator and mentor on cases, creating case plans, leading intake assessments, educational sessions, accountability processes and facilitating restorative dialogues. Under the direction and supervision of the
Program Manager and Program Director, the Case Manager will work with clients, both who have been harmed and caused harm, to build restorative process around their needs and to prepare them for dialogues and other restorative processes. This position will also participate in the training and coordination of volunteers.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. Conduct intake assessments with referred individuals in order to determine program suitability, identify client needs, and explore potential outcomes.

2. Participate in team case management debriefings; identify presenting issues, support with challenging files, and determine types of restorative processes to initiate, given the circumstances of the file.

3. Coordinate, design, and facilitate the chosen restorative process; work closely with responsible parties, affected parties, community contacts and other stakeholders to ensure processes are inclusive, needs-based, trauma-informed and align with program values.

4. Network with new and existing community-serving organizations and direct program participants to a wide variety of local or online support services, resources, and programs; liaise with internal and external service providers to increase participant access to wrap-around supports.

5. Monitor and support clients to successfully complete Agreements/Alternative Measures
Plans and collect appropriate documentation; Ensure Agreements/Alternative Measures
Plans follow SMART acronym (specific, measurable, attainable, reasonable, timely).

6. Create and maintain relationships with a network of community partners that provide volunteer placement opportunities for participants; ensure appropriate service agreements with community partners are effectively communicated, agreed upon, and documented.

7. Maintain robust records of all relevant qualitative and quantitative case information, correspondence with referral agents, and volunteer activities in CAMS and other data collection systems.

8. Ensure files are completed in a timely manner and/or in accordance with the
