**SUMMARY**

The Banquet Captain is responsible for directly overseeing the service staff in facilities to include the Banquet Rooms, Patios, and any other applicable On-Course or Clubhouse food and beverage services. They directly lead the banquet and events department ensuring the highest level of service by overseeing all aspects of service and service staff during operating hours, while working in a clean and safe environment, and efficiently executing and achieving all departmental goals (financial, guest satisfaction, and staff fulfillment). They will support the Banquet Manager and to act as the point of contact and leader when the Manager is off site.

The Banquet Captain will report to the Banquet Manager with a commitment to teamwork and a focus on achieving the department’s overall vision and goals.

**Qualifications**
- Minimum 2 years serving and/or banquet experience within a supervisory capacity
- Serving it Right certification
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to direct a team and lead by example
- Excellent communication skills
- A self-starter who can work independently or as part of a team
- Able to multitask competing priorities, while maintaining a calm demeanor
- Serving It Right certificate
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Bartending experience would be asset

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES **include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

**Essential**
- Manages service aspects in specific food and beverage assigned areas and operations and acknowledges, greets and thanks all staff and guests
- Directly helps the Banquet Manager oversee the management of all events and banquets to ensure proper preparation, room set up, execution, and clean up
- Focuses on tasks centered on supporting the overall vision of the department including building policies and procedures, tracking results, analyzing data, and supporting direct reports

**Staff Relations**
- Creates and supports systems that enable effective recruitment, training, and orientation for new and returning staff
- Directly supervises Banquet staff ensuring all club and departmental policies are adhered to including: uniforms, opening/closing procedures, codes of conduct, cleaning schedules, and operational systems
- Communicates effectively with all staff members
- Evaluates and supervises performance and carries out disciplinary action as needed, in accordance with the Club’s policies and applicable laws
- Coaches staff members when an area is identified that needs improvement
- Empowers staff to take initiative to drive sales and repeat business

**Departmental Teamwork**
- Strives to achieve departmental goals and adheres to the overall UGC F&B vision, mission, and core values
- Works with F&B Manager, Restaurant Manager, and Chef as well as with Golf Operations team as required
- Communicates effectively with the Food and Beverage management team and Golf Operations team with a commitment to collaboration, teamwork, discussion, adaptability, and adherence
- Communicates and teams well with all F/B departments ensuring appropriate staff levels and ensuring assigned responsibilities are carried out
- Implements and supports all Club and departmental initiatives and programs as requested by management

**Departmental Results**
- Ensures compliance with licensing, hygiene and health and safety legislation/guidelines
- Protects Club, staff, and guests by training staff in and adhering to all safety, sanitation, food preparation, food storage and alcohol beverage control policies including confirming legal drinking age and discontinuing service to intoxicated guests
- Maintains balanced staffing and scheduling strategies to meet business needs
- Maximizes food and beverage sales by identifying and targeting sales opportunities through marketing including promotions and special events and by training staff on “up-selling”
- Assesses and improves profitability, setting sales targets, and handling administration as required

**Customer Relations**
- Maintains guest satisfaction by handing inquiries, concerns or comments and providing solutions; acquiring feedback from guests, staff, and co-workers in order to ensure satisfaction and/or implement service improvement ideas; developing new concepts to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business
- Ensures guest service standards are implemented and executed at a high level

Maintains high visibility at the course by greeting and listening to customers’ comments and needs

Must be able to lift 50lbs

Will be on feet for long periods of time
