**About us**

The Saskatoon SPCA is a registered charitable organization that provides care for over 3000 abandoned, homeless, neglected or abused animals annually from Saskatoon and area. Our Mission is to improve quality of life for companion animals in our community through education, adoption, and the enforcement of animal welfare legislation, in a sustainable manner.

**The funding for this position is based on a government grant and the successful applicant needs to be between the age of 15 and 30.**

Overview

The Maintenance Person will work with the Saskatoon SPCA’s Operations Department to ensure building preventative maintenance checks are complete and grounds are maintained to high quality standards while caring for the animals entrusted to us. This maintenance position is in scope with a starting wage of $14.35/hour as per the current Collective Agreement.

**Qualities**
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
- Organized and able to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Mechanically inclined with some experience in small equipment
- Able to work independently, collaboratively, and as an effective team member
- Able to work outdoors in Spring/Summer weather conditions
- Ability to engage in physical labor within all governing bodies of the Saskatoon SPCA

**Education, Experience, Skills**
- Post-secondary student or graduate in a relevant discipline
- Able to work 40 hours a week from the end of May to at least the middle of August (14 weeks)
- Full time schedule will include 1 weekend day to maintain grounds watering
- Able to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Able to do physical labour as needed
- Experience working with animals an asset
- Must have valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

**Accountable for**:
This summer contract position will suit a flexible, mechanically inclined person with strong communications and creative skills. The duties are varied.
- Yard Maintenance_
- Operation and upkeep of power equipment - push mower, gas weed trimmer, etc.
- Flower bed maintenance
- Sprinkler system operation
- Touch up painting as needed
- Water plants, vegetation and shrubbery
- Removal of waste from outdoor garbage cans
- Keeping parking lot and walkways clear and free of litter
- Miscellaneous repairs and general maintenance
- Adoptions_
- Assist Adoption Reps with cleaning and feeding animals on a daily basis or when needed
- Assist Adoption Reps with laundry as needed
- Rotate food products and cat litter between food storage and Sea-cans
- Ensure all inside equipment is maintained
- Nature of Work_
- Must have a genuine interest in and concern for the overall well-being of animals and demonstrate empathy and compassion for shelter animals
- Other Responsibilities_
- Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required
- Participate in promotional activities as required
- All other duties as assigned.
