What Your Position Will Be:
As a key member of the BSAC team, you will play a crucial role in creating a sense of belonging, empowerment, and academic success among Black students. Working under the guidance of the Black Student Advisor (BSA), you will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Centre, supporting students, developing programming, providing administrative assistance, and coordinating events.

What You'll Be Doing:
Supporting Students:

- Address student inquiries and concerns, ensuring timely and effective responses.
- Build relationships and foster connections with students, staff, faculty, and community members.
- Bring to the attention of the Advisor trends and developments related to Black student success and wellbeing.
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers.

Supporting Operations:

- Schedule and supervise Student Assistants.
- Assist with the onboarding and training of Student Assistants.
- Create tools such as checklists and other process documents to support Student Assistants in their role.
- Assist with various administrative tasks, including data collection for annual reporting, data entry, record keeping and supporting BSA as needed.
- Participate in meetings, committees, and working groups to support Centre operations.

Event Coordination and Programming:

- Develop and assist in planning, organizing, and executing programs, workshops, and activities within BSAC.
- Contribute to outreach initiatives aimed at connecting with prospective and current Black students.
- Participate and assist in BSAC events as needed such as Open House, orientation.

What You Need to Succeed:

- Knowledge of the history of BSAC, Afrocentric philosophy, and the diverse composition of students of African descent on campus.
- Understanding of the unique experiences and challenges faced by students of African descent in post-secondary education.
- Knowledge and understanding of the African Nova Scotian Community.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect and engage with students, faculty, and staff.
- Familiarity with university resources and services available to support student success.
- Strong organizational skills, multitasking abilities, and effective prioritization.
- Sensitivity to confidentiality and the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
