Financial Analyst, Membership Finance

Purpose of role

Reporting to the Manager, Membership Finance, this position will play a key role in managing the finances for the Membership Department including tracking, reconciliations and reporting of all financial information. Additionally, this role will support the financial management relating to the Foresters Granting program/Member Branch Network for Canada, US, and UK.

The Financial Analyst will assess invoices and financial transactions against financial policies following business processes and rules and will document procedures and develop control processes maintaining legal and financial integrity. The role will provide sound financial analysis to support business decisions, drive efficiency and achievement of financial objectives through timely and accurate financial information, and effective processes.

Key Responsibilities

Administer Foresters Granting programs by accurately tracking receipts/payments via QuickBooks and reconciling Grants System with Bank Statements and QuickBooks
- Post and update granting transactions in QuickBooks.
- Transfer funds to the respective bank account and ensure accounts are adequately funded.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations ensuring accuracy and completeness, and submit to Manager, Membership Finance for approval.
- Support the Regional reallocation exercise by updating the respective branch budgets in the Grants System and QuickBooks.
- Support the annual grant reconciliation process by accurately reconciling 50+ Branches and “In-Trust” accounts with Grants System and QuickBooks.

Budgeting, Forecasting, Reporting and Analysis for the Membership/Fraternal Division
- Support budget owners and Corporate Finance Planning team through the annual budget planning process.
- Support Management with the consolidation of the Division expense budget. Provide value-added analysis, interpreting results etc. Effectively track via Budget tracking sheet, all receipts, and payments against Master Administrative Budget from Finance. Provide monthly updates to Membership Management team.
- Support quarterly Board reporting by preparing the Membership Financial Summary of expenses report and assisting with the Board Memo explaining variance for Actual vs Plan.
- Prepare timely and consistent reports for Regional Assembly and Trustee Meetings ensuring stakeholders understand the data provided. Inform stakeholders of any changes to context or if differences exist.
- Manage, within stated guidelines, the filing process for American Fraternal Alliance and IRS Group/Branch 990, by preparing financial statements etc.
- Assist Corporate Finance department with the preparation of annual Corporate IRS 990 Filing.

Operational Support, Internal Control, Continuous Improvement and Risk
- Prepare invoices for payment: code and submit to approver invoices for Member Experience, Member Governance, Member Engagement, Member Marketing, and Membership for US, UK, and Canada.
- Serve as contact for the annual Grant audit process with Foresters Internal Audit department.
- Assist in process documentation and development of control associated with the Granting program. Identify and recommend best practices, process, and controls for the Division.
- Identify financial risk and solve numerous financial problems.
- Build relationships across businesses and functions and establish a high level of credibility. Ensure accuracy of information and output delivered. Maintain high standards in interaction with all Business partners.
- Investigate and resolve problem items: bring problem items to the attention of Manager.
- Demonstrate commitment towards continuously updating knowledge and skills.
- Provide financial support to business cases and analysis that supports the Fraternal Division annual strategy, update process and analyzing the data.
- Provide support in the development of reports/presentations for various strategic partnership meetings and activities.
- Participate in the implementation of new business initiatives/pilots.
- Support with payment fulfillment to members and vendors across all three countries
- Other duties and projects as assigned.

Key Qualifications
- Education (minimum required): Post-secondary degree in business, accounting, finance or equivalent.
- Professional Accounting designation or enrolled in advanced stages of professional designation program.
- Experience: Minimum 1-2 experience in a Financial Analyst role. Financial service industry experience would be an asset.
- Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting software.
- Strong analytical, financial, and accounting skills.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels within and outside of the organization, both orally and in writing.
