About the Mass Participation Events

The Tour de Cure is BC’s biggest annual fundraiser that powers innovative Cancer research. Thousands of riders, volunteers and supporters come together each year for a two-day cycling challenge at the end of August. This program is much more than a two-day event. It is a community movement and a year-round peer-to-peer fundraising program. To date, the Tour de Cure has raised over $124 million to fuel best in class research in BC.

Workout to Conquer Cancer, is a call to connect, fundraise and move for each other, and everyone facing cancer. We move for the people who cannot. We move for every survivor who now feels strong. We move because together, that movement can take us beyond limits, beyond belief. Each May, we move for 30 minutes each day to inspire everyone to make an impact. All funds raised through the Workout to Conquer Cancer challenge go to world-leading innovation in cancer research and care through the BC Cancer Foundation.

The Cypress Challenge - since 2008, riders have pushed themselves to raise almost $4.5 million toward leading pancreatic cancer research at BC Cancer. They’ve been making the climb each summer for 16 years to help improve outcomes for the more than 800 people per year diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

About the Opportunity

Reporting into the Director, Mass Participation Events and Development, the Development Specialist is responsible for championing each of the Mass Participation Events and the BC Cancer Foundation, by generating and engaging with community and corporate leads based on insights. Success will be achieved by actively recruiting new teams and participants and building and cultivating lasting relationships across our BCCF network of valued influencers, donors and partners.

We are looking for a results oriented and proactive Development Specialist who is committed to achieving winning results through exceptional people skills and strategic insights. This position collaborates with internal program areas to ensure Tour de Cure, Workout to Conquer Cancer and Cypress Challenge activities contribute to shared goals for sustained fundraising success and align with BCCF goals related to donor engagement and stewardship, major gift development, corporate sponsor relations, and overall marketing and communications. This position requires strong business acumen and the ability to drive new and returning participants for each of our Mass Participation programs according to the unique and diverse needs of BCCF, our riders and stakeholders.

Professional experience in business development, sales and/or member experience is considered an asset.

**Responsibilities**:
Growth

Grow and manage a portfolio of prospects through the development of strategic cultivation and solicitation plans.

Identify and actively recruit participants, with a primary focus on community and select corporate teams.

Organize and lead orientation sessions to drive recruitment and fundraising.

Stewardship

Provide an exceptional customer service experience for all enquirers and participants.

Identify and lead stewardship activities that develop and deepen relationships with Community teams, participants and donors.

Set up fundraising plans with participants and team captains to help ensure they meet their targets.

Collaborate with Director, Mass Participation in supporting the Leadership Giving and Major Gifts teams to cultivate donors and move them through the Foundation’s pipeline.

Analysis

Analyse and review participant and market data to understand our participants and donors to build and drive development action plans for targeted groups.

Monitor current marketplace trends and corporate activity in order to create and capitalize on opportunity.

Other

Serve as Event Staff on event weekend and during other off-season events.
