**Our External Relations Department is seeking a Division Manager, Corporate Communications who will oversee a team that leads the development of innovative communication strategies, behavior change campaigns, and youth and education engagement in support of Metro Vancouver’s strategic priorities.**

**The Division Manager, Corporate Communications reports to the Director and falls within our Management / Leadership job family.**

**This role**:

- Leads the Corporate Communication Division and is responsible for developing innovative communications strategies in support of Metro Vancouver’s strategic priorities. Integrates and coordinates campaigns with regulatory, pricing, infrastructure, or other operational initiatives.
- Accountable for the division’s budget preparation, resource allocations, and reporting. Monitors and controls spending ensuring the effective and efficient expenditure of allocated funds within the approved budget. Develops and implements strategic initiatives, sets priorities, and leads work planning activities.
- Develops, revises, and implements plans to brand Metro Vancouver and increase awareness and understanding of the organization’s services and policies. Works with managers to coordinate efforts and messages among projects, divisions, and departments.
- Analyses and makes recommendations for circumstances with organized and high-profile opposition, evaluates and assesses the various positions, and implements plans to mitigate concerns. Works to clearly communicate the organization’s actions and intentions.
- Monitors and measures the effectiveness of initiatives. Manages new or unforeseen issues and adjusts strategies based on changing circumstances, initial results, and new information. Displays creativity in developing tactics and conducts public opinion research to evaluate the success of initiatives. Reports on the Division’s work to the CAO, Board, and Committees. Responds to questions and provides advice on corporate communication matters.
- Responsible for hiring, directing, and motivating staff. Monitors performance towards division, department, and corporate objectives and ensures staff adhere to corporate and board policies. Leads and coaches staff, recognizing the importance of leadership, supervisory, and technical training. Develops and sustains a flexible workforce encouraging staff to pursue opportunities that complement their skills and experience.
- Liaises with other divisions and departments to build and maintain working relationships and nurture interdepartmental cooperation. Facilitates and leads the coordination of communication strategies ensuring consistent branding and messaging throughout the organization. Builds partnerships and relationships with stakeholders in the private sector, NGO’s, academics, and local government to support the organization’s communications, outreach, and engagement objectives. Represents the organization at public events and facilitates consultation meetings; may chair workshops or meetings for the Board and Committees.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**To be successful, you have**:

- University degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field and 10 years of progressively senior experience providing strategic communications advice; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Canadian Public Relations Society or International Association of Business Communicators professional designations are desirable.
- Extensive skills and knowledge related to creating and delivering communications strategies, outreach, and engagement programs; major public events and campaigns; and messages to the public on matters of regional and community importance.
- Expert written and oral communications skills including knowledge and skill in developing communications strategies for the public sector. Ability to communicate effectively and work productively with diverse individuals and groups.
