About the team
Our HR Staffing team is comprised of four HR Officers that each have defined portfolios of both teaching and non-teaching support staff. The Junior Human Resources Officer will play a critical role in supporting each HR Officer during peak staffing periods throughout the year.
About the Position
Reporting to the Manager, Recruitment and Staffing, the temporary Junior Human Resources Officer will provide generalist human resources support to the HR Officers as well as be responsible for special projects. The temporary Junior Human Resources Officer will act as a resource to unions, supervisors, principals/vice principals and employees on human resources staffing matters.
**Duties include, but are not limited to**:
Assist with employee inquiries pertaining to collective agreement interpretation, employment policies and procedures, Employment Standards, Education Act, Ontario College of Teachers Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and other applicable legislation
Work cross-functionally with other divisions of HR Services to provide expertise in staffing
Support the HR Officers with coordination of staffing timelines, job postings, and interview processes for specific employee groups during peak staffing periods
Support HR officers with recoding, when required, of various absence codes in the Board’s Absence Management system
Support HR Officers in providing background information on grievances dealing with staffing issues
Participate on interview panels as needed.
Make recommendations and execute on areas of identified process improvement within each HR Officer portfolio.
Support with the development and presentation of workshops with respect to staffing processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Support with revision, approval, and/or denies all leave requests for all employee groups following Collective Agreement and ESA guidelines, during peak staffing periods.
Support the HR Officers with various ad hoc special projects.
**Qualifications**:
College Diploma or bachelor’s degree related to Human Resources or Business Administration.
Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) is considered an asset.
Two (2) years of direct Human Resources staffing experience in a unionized environment with demonstrated success in problem solving and Collective Agreement administration.
Experience, preferably in an educational setting or a large, complex, unionized human resources environment.
Ability to prioritize and work in a multifunctional environment with competing priorities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills related to problem solving and conflict resolution including the ability to manage sensitive employee issues with tact and diplomacy
Customer service-oriented approach with strong communication, planning, organizational, and time management skills.
Proficient computer skills including HRIS systems, database management systems and Microsoft Office.
Demonstrate an anti-oppressive/anti-racist understanding and be responsive to the needs and interests of diverse collaborators.
Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment.
The successful applicant may be required to work after hours during peak workload periods.
