Under the direction of the Director, Student Success, the Student Success Specialist (SSS) will provide opportunities for students to participate in the Lakehead community and support students in discovering, planning for, and achieving academic and career goals.
The SSS will oversee a variety of student success programs, events, and supports that contribute to the overall retention rates of the University while improving student experience and satisfaction. The role has specific responsibilities relating to orientation and transition programming, student success advising, leadership development, and other student engagement services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary degree in a related field;
- 3 years of related experience, ideally within a post-secondary environment;
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and judgment in dealing with difficult and sensitive issues;
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills;
- Excellent organization, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills;
- Ability to further the culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion at Lakehead University;
- Knowledge of services available to students and understanding of the student life cycle, and student development theory;
- Ability to work well in a team and independently;
- Passion for student leadership development;
- Knowledge of budget monitoring, risk management, and event planning;
- Experience in marketing and communications for events and information campaigns;
- Knowledge of services available to students and the student life cycle; and,
