The Dale E. Creighton Brain & Biobank (DECBB) for Concussion and Neurodegenerative Dementias mission is to coordinate brain donation, store tissues, blood and CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) indefinitely and facilitate the distribution of high quality, well characterized human post-mortem brain tissue, biosample and associated valuable clinical data from patients with dementia or concussions to qualified researchers locally and globally.
- Key Goals of the Unit:_

1. To increase the availability of brains with dementia or concussions, healthy brains and related bio-specimens by increasing public awareness of the value of post-mortem brain donation and to simplify the process of becoming a donor.

2. To make available to qualified researchers high-quality, well-characterized human post-mortem brain tissue, quality blood and CSF sample and associated valuable clinical data from patients with dementia or concussions to the research community.

**Responsibilities**:
Education

Minimum Required:

- BSc in a health science, neuroscience or a related discipline

Experience

Minimum Required:

- 2 years experience in laboratory based environment

Preferred:

- Experience in a related academic research environment
- Working experience with the elderly, dementia and age-related disease
- Experience with wearable sensor technology
- Experience with virtual data collection

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes
- Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing laboratory work and research ethics in an academic environment and with best practices for reviewing and writing grant proposals
- In depth knowledge with methods in laboratory organization
- Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate participant availability and cross-lab coordination with individuals in other time zones
- Ability to provide guidance, support and feedback in a way that is positively received
- Results-oriented with the ability to motivate and coach employees to meet high performance standards, while working effectively as a member of the leadership team
- Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
- Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Ability to interpret and identify key results from research and to succinctly summarize research findings
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Ability to adhere to legislated safety requirements and Western safety policies
- Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant scientific/research principles
- Demonstrated ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
