Project-based Driver: 12-passenger Van During

**Position(s)**: Project-based Driver: 12-Passenger Van during Labour Dispute (Strike)
25 YEARS and above (for Insurance Purposes)
**Hours of work**: For the length of the labour dispute, 12 hours per day / 7 days per week
6AM - 6PM, 7 days per week (shifts are split)
84 hours per week (44 regular/40 overtime)
**Rate of Pay**:$24.00/hr regular rate, $36.00/hr overtime
$45.00 per day for food allowance
$6.00 per day for cell phone allowance
**Location**: Wherever project is based (somewhere in Ontario)
**Job Summary**:
Under the supervision of the Security Coordinator, the Driver operates a passenger van to transport clients and supplies safely and efficiently, across picket lines. Driver must have a calm demeanor and be able to work in stressful environments. Coordinates route to ensure clients are picked up and dropped off as scheduled and assists clients as necessary. Interacts and communicates effectively with clients, & coworkers.
Driver will be provided lodging in a hotel and will be based with the security team for the duration of the project.
**Primary Responsibilities include**:
- Pick up at specified location, at designated time and transport to their destination on time.
- Guide or assist client to get in and out of the vehicle.
- Load supplies, handling equipment safely and carefully to prevent damage.
- Reports all incidents to the Coordinator.
- Carries out Daily Inspection and records.
- Does not operate the vehicle if safety features on the vehicle are not operating properly e.g., brake lights, turn signals, back up signal.
- Record the Daily Inspection sheet and reports any mechanical deficiencies e.g., improperly operating signal lights, low tires, unusual sounds.
- Keep interior and exterior of vehicle clean - daily removing garbage and other items; weekly thorough cleaning of interior and exterior (weather permitting).
- May be assigned to take vehicle to the service center for maintenance.
- May be required to carry out minor maintenance such as changing windshield wipers, air in tires.
- Keeps the vehicle at least ¾ full of fuel at all times.
**Experience Required**:
- Minimum 3 years driving experience with a clean driving record.
- Experience working during a labour dispute/strike is an asset.
- Experience driving a large panel van.
**Skills**:
- Effective communication skills, fluent in English. (verbal, written)
- Ability to take direction well, and work independently.
- Learn and use a GPS.
- Ability and available to work flexible hours including split-shift, days, evenings, and weekends.
- Adjust to changing procedures and schedules.
**Qualifications include**:
- Must have a current valid driver’s license, Class G or higher in the province of Ontario (not graduated license)
- Must provide a Driver’s Abstract with no violations.
- No known health conditions that may impair driving safety.
- Must be at least 25 years of age for insurance purposes.
- Must have a smart phone/device that utilizes a GPS.
**Anticipated Start Date: ASAP**
**Salary**: $24.00 per hour
