**The Opportunity**:
The Waste Collection and Diversion Program Specialist will support the Manager, Waste Collection and
Diversion in the delivery of the District’s various waste collection and diversion programs and projects by
providing program evaluation, data collection and analysis, research and reporting.
**What you will do**:
- Assist in the development and administration of waste collection and diversion programs and projects such
as organics expansion program, blue box transition, and other programs outlined in the Waste Strategy
and to be developed through the Solid Waste Master Plan.
- Develop processes and tools related to the collection, review, and evaluation of data for programs
consistent with relevant legislation, regulatory and policy requirements to meet program and Waste
Strategy targets.
- Provide recommendations on waste collection and diversion programs by analyzing waste data from a
variety of sources to support approaches and solutions to waste reduction and improved diversion to
address waste management and diversion goals.
- Develop reports, metrics, and various other analytics to support the collection and diversion programs.
Provide analyzed information for any waste survey and/or data reporting requirements.
- Coordinate and organize waste program events such as Lakeside collection, educational programs, and
hazardous waste disposal days.
- Respond to customer inquiries, complaints, and service requirements. Act as support for the Contracts and
Programs Administrator for escalations related to customer service.
- Develop and maintain waste related databases and systems. Provide documentation of processes and
procedures of waste management programs.
- Act as a point of contact and trainer for Site Attendants on the waste facility software system and contract
requirements.
- Assist in the development and administration of Waste Collection and Diversion contracts such as curbside
collection, hazardous waste, and site attendants, including preparing RPF, RFQ and Tender documents.
- Research best practices for waste management and identify recommendations to provide improved
workflow and program effectiveness.
**What you will need**:
- Three (3) year post-secondary program in Environmental Science, or related field.
- Four to five years progressively responsible experience in waste management, municipal government or
related field.
- Working knowledge of all applicable legislation, standards, and guidelines
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for dealing with municipal personnel, the public and make
presentations to a variety of different audiences.
- Ability to travel throughout Muskoka for work-related purposes.
