**Position Summary**

The Speech and Language Assistant will work directly under licensed speech pathologists, aiding them in their daily responsibilities to provide a range of clinical services that focus on promoting communication, language and speech that contributes to a client/patient’s overall cognitive, physical, social and emotional well-being.

**This is a Term Position with an end date of April 12th, 2024, with a possibility of extension.**

**What you’ll do**
- Use screening protocols selected by the Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP).
- Assist the SLP during assessments, including but not limited to preparing materials, and performing clerical duties as
requested.
- Implement individual service plans.
- Provide direct services to children, in groups or individually.
- Prepare materials for children’s sessions, home programs and centers.
- Document child’s performance during intervention
- Assist the SLP in in service training, and community education.
- Assist with departmental operations: scheduling, chart preparation, data collection, record keeping, safety precautions, maintenance of supplies/equipment and audio-visual equipment operation.
- Attend staff meetings when required.
- Attend and/or participate in any First Nations activities as requested by the Seabird Island Early Childhood Department
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, Executive Director, or Chief & Council.

**What you bring**

**Education**
- Diploma Speech and Language Assistant (SLA) or Communication Disorder Assistant or willing to obtain.

**Experience/Skills**
- Demonstrated ability to work and learn in a fast-paced team environment.
- Experience working in an Early Childhood Development Tram environment.
- Ability to develop and maintain a warm, caring, and responsive relationship with children.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Excellent organizational and management skills
- Physically able to perform all assigned tasks.

**Requirements**:

- Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.)
- Proficient interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Ability to agree as well as adhere to Seabird Island Band Human Resources (HR), Finance, and Information Technology (IT) Policies and Procedures, etc.
- Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó: lō culture, traditions and language or willingness to learn.
- Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract within the last 5 years.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

**Reports to**:MCFD Program Supervisor
