**SCOPE**
Reporting to the Manager, Student Academic Services (SAS), the incumbent counsels and guides students at Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science (GCS) throughout their enrollment in the programs as well as potential students interested in admission to one of the programs at GCS.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Advise undergraduate students and potential students on matters relating to their academic pursuits and career aspirations on daily as well as appointment basis and document the advice on the Student Information System (SIS).
- Evaluate students’ academic records for degree and program requirements; provide advice to and counsel students with academic related problems.
- Provide registration assistance to undergraduate students and resolve registration problems for students and departments.
- Provide timely and appropriate responses to student requests regarding course exemption and transfer credit assessments, student exchange, visiting students, and any other requests for exceptions to University academic rules and regulations to students, faculty members and staff members.
- Liaise with Enrollment Services and maintain active communication with students and university departments and services.
- Participate in the scheduling of graduate and undergraduate courses at GCS according to the relevant policies, practices and procedures to the scheduling processes and all related activities.in collaboration with the appropriate Academic Personnel at the departments of the Faculty and the University.
- Present and handle complex requests from individual students to the Student Request Committee, and Administer, in conjunction with the Associate Dean, the Code of Academic Conduct for the GCS.
- Pro-actively counsel/inform departments, and the student population about academic programs, rules and regulations; compile, edit and coordinate the Curriculum Letters to the undergraduate students at GCS, conduct Orientation/Advising sessions, update information on SAS website and Plan/facilitate workshops.
- Represent the Student Academic Services team on various internal and external meetings and/or committees, which deal with advising and retention of undergraduate students.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor’s Degree and two to four years of related work experience in an academic setting.
- Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English language communication skills; good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and reading comprehension French.
- Good knowledge (Intermediate Level) of Word, Excel and comfortable working in Windows environment.
- Previous work experience in the area of student life and knowledge of Canadian educational and International educational systems and the University’s academic rules and regulations an asset.
- Knowledge of the Student Information System (SIS) desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal skills is essential; ability to deal effectively with prospective, current and former students and alumni, with faculty and staff members and on internal and external departments and committees.
- Must have proven analytical and organization skills; the ability to work under pressure for extended periods of time, take initiative and work independently and also within a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills in order to conduct orientation and information sessions to potential and current students.
- Must have a proven ability to coordinate projects and work within strict deadlines.
- Ability to work extended hours outside normal operating hours
- Ability to work under pressure in a high volume area and to adapt to change; proven experience working in a fast paced, high pressure team environment.
