Reporting to the Manager, Watershed Plans and Strategies, you will be responsible for assisting on a pilot study assessing the potential for nature-based solutions to mitigate urban heat island effects, now and into the future.

**What you offer**
- Successful completion of a post-secondary program related to environmental science, forestry, geography, geomatics, biology, or other related disciplines and at least 2 years of experience.
- Experience with ArcGIS, and familiarity with remote sensing through aerial photography or satellite imagery.
- Experience in landscape-scale or forest ecosystem modelling.
- Experience with data analysis software, including R, would be an asset.
- Experience in working with cross-disciplinary project teams.
- Experience in landscape-scale or forest ecosystem modelling would be considered an asset.
- Ability to publicly represent the Conservation Authority and our partners in a professional manner.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- An interest in climate change resilience and watershed ecology and management.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite products.
- Valid G class driver’s license in good standing.

**What you will do**
- Compile and review modelling approaches available to assess the role of urban forest cover in offsetting urban heat island effect.
- Identify and summarize the data needs, assumptions, outputs, and data expertise requirements of the various modelling approaches identified.
- Working with your manager, recommend a preferred approach for modelling for the Conservation Authority.
- Working with your manager, colleagues, and employees from one or more municipalities in the Lake Simcoe watershed, undertake an assessment of the role of the urban forest in reducing urban heat island effect currently in a target municipality(ies), as well as scenarios for future tree cover necessary to offset projected increases in extreme heat events due to climate change.
- Assist your manager, colleagues, and employees from one or more municipalities in the Lake Simcoe watershed to develop recommendations for action from the above.
- Draft a final technical report and presentation outlining the results of the above.

**Start Date**: May 2024

**Hours of work**: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position is eligible for hybrid work.
