**JOB SUMMARY**:
Under the direction of the Director, Communications & Community Engagement, the Volunteer &
Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Volunteer Program at the
Guelph Humane Society (GHS) as well as providing support to community programs and engagement activities. This position will also provide program and communications support to meet departmental objectives. Responsibilities also include providing exceptional customer service, excellent communication, and organization skills, and demonstrating a positive attitude at all times, while supporting the overall mission and values of the GHS.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Volunteer Coordinator (75% of role)**:

- Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding:_
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit volunteers (including foster homes) from diverse backgrounds
- Promote volunteer opportunities through various channels, such as online platforms, community events, and social media
- Conduct interviews to ensure volunteers meet organizational requirements
- Coordinate volunteer orientation sessions and provide necessary onboarding training to familiarize volunteers with their roles and responsibilities, including health and safety
- Volunteer Placement & Management_
- Assess the organization’s needs and match volunteers to appropriate positions based on their skills, interests, and availability
- Maintain an accurate database of volunteers, including contact information, availability, and skills
- Communicate regularly with volunteers to provide updates, answer questions, and address concerns
- Coordinate volunteer schedules and ensure appropriate coverage for various activities and events
- Provide ongoing support and supervision to volunteers, including guidance, feedback, and recognition of their contributions
- Provide support to staff on managing issues with volunteers, and when necessary, facilitate discussions (with assistance of other staff, as necessary) to ensure a positive and productive environment
- Volunteer Program Development:_
- Collaborate with departments to identify volunteer needs and develop volunteer position descriptions
- Continuously evaluate and improve volunteer programs, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
- Conduct surveys or feedback sessions to assess volunteer satisfaction and identify areas for improvement
- Coordinate and facilitate group and corporate volunteer experiences
- Conduct presentations and/or shelter tours for volunteers, special interest groups, and the general public, as requested
- Explore innovative ways to engage volunteers and promote their long-term involvement with

GHS
- Volunteer Communication & Recognition_
- Recognize and appreciate volunteer’s efforts through formal and informal recognition programs
- Organize volunteer appreciation events or activities (including National Volunteer Appreciation

Week) to celebrate their contributions and foster a sense of community
- Volunteer Reporting & Evaluation_
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, activities, and achievements for reporting purposes
- Generate reports on volunteer program metrics, such as volunteer retention rates, engagement levels, and impact
- Collaborate with GHS’s leadership to assess the effectiveness of the volunteer program and make recommendations for improvement

**Program & Community Engagement Support (25%)**
- Support the planning and execution of community programs as well as adoption and outreach events
- Assist in writing, editing, and proofreading content to ensure consistency, clarify, and adherence to brand guidelines
- Helps to maintain an annual content calendar to support organizational objectives
- Collect data for media monitoring on traditional and social channels
- Assist in managing and updating the organization's website content, ensuring it reflects the latest program, initiatives, and achievements
- Support GHS’s social media presence by creating and scheduling engaging content, monitoring platforms for audience engagement, and responding to comments or inquiries
- Assist in developing and implementing effective communication strategies to engage and inform stakeholders, including program participants, partners, and donors
