Suppa Engineering has acquired an existing sprint racing canoe and kayak manufacturer that was operating in Quebec. The existing company is Simon River Sports and has only had mínimal operations for the last several years. We have acquired the naming rights, all IP and all existing canoe and kayak molds needed to build the boats here in North Bay. We need to build several prototypes, test various materials, and improve on existing fabrication techniques in order to compete in the current market place.At this time, we do not have any staff members with this skill set and are looking to hire a new staff to fill this gap. The intern would develop transferable skills in fiberglass, carbon fiber and other similar materials and advanced manufacturing methods and techniques.
**Responsibilities**
- Fabricate new canoe and kayak shell using existing molds.
- Cut, modify and assemble hulls.
- Design and install boat equipment, such as seats, rudders and knee boards.
- Test prototypes for compliance with industry and Transport Canada requirements.
- Confirm compliance with competition / sport regulations.
- Recommend improvements in design and manufacturing techniques.
**Qualifications**
- Diploma in advanced manufacturing or composite design.
- Bachelor of Science - Mechanical Engineering or similar area of study.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and other computer aided drafting and design software.
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel and be able to type at least 50wpm.
- Must have a desire to learn and be a team player.Must be able to lift various heavy items of a minimum of 25 lbs. and to a maximum of 80 lbs.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with other members of all disciplines within Suppa Engineering staff.
- Self-starter, with the ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- You must be a contemplative person who is willing to challenge your own work and be adaptable as the product evolves.
- Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and a willingness to work in a team atmosphere.
- Ability to take the lead on a project team once additional staff are added.
