Temporary Full Time Toy Shop Worker

The Toy Shop Worker provides support to Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Oversee the Toy Shop and Toy Room.
- Build and maintain rapport with staff, volunteers, community agencies and clients.
- Act as a liaison with various community groups to promote and support the annual Toy Drive.
- Assist with set up, take down and organization of toy distribution program.
- Assist with the scheduling and organization of volunteers at the direction of the volunteer coordinator.
- Receive and process all donations of toys for distribution and provide assistance with packing and sorting toy donations.
- Assess toys for damage.
- Redirect monetary donations to appropriate staff and volunteers.
- Distribute gift cards to gift card station volunteer. Collect data sheets daily and file appropriately.
- Assist with recording statistical data in a clear, organized and accurate manner.
- Review daily schedules with management and staff. Brief volunteers where appropriate.
- Support volunteers and designate assignments as necessary.
- Order supplies and maintain volunteer break area.
- Collaborate with Volunteer Coordinator as requested.
- Perform other related duties as required.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- This is a temporary position from Oct. 2023 to Jan 2024
- Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekends. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
- Flexible in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements.
- Working environment is typically office however there will be times in other areas of the building.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. (10 kg)

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

- Completion of high school or equivalent

**EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE**:

- Minimum one year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be an asset.
- Knowledge and experience of Christmas Assistance Programs an asset.
- Experience leading a team an asset.

**SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES**:

- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision and with a team.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Work in compliance with OH&S and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Honest, courteous, and punctual; represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner.
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Act as a trusted Steward of all donations.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a CPIC with vulnerable sector screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
