**Summary**:
The Urban Aboriginal Head Start Program Cook is responsible for all aspects of the nutrition program - menu planning, shopping, food preparation and maintaining a safe, clean kitchen. This is a part-time position, 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, with flexible hours to include monthly parent programming in the evenings and on weekends. The Cook must be a physically fit person.

**Responsibilities**:
Prepares Meals and Maintains Kitchen
- Daily (Monday to Thursday) preparation of nutritious snacks and lunch for up to
- 40 preschool children - 3 and 4 years of age;
- Preparation of food for parenting programs;
- Weekly ordering and pick-up for groceries and supplies;
- Kitchen management (meal planning, food preparation, stock-keeping);
- Maintain the kitchen and food storage areas in a clean and sanitary condition.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- training in food preparation;
- Current Safe Food Handling certification, WHIMS and First Aid/CPR;
- Minimum of one year related experience in cooking at children’s programs;
- Knowledge of the nutritional requirements of young children and adults;
- Knowledge of traditional Frist Nations and current cooking methods;
- Able to work standing, walking, and bending for extended periods of time;
- Capacity to lift and carry goods up to 40 lbs;
- Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License Class 5, and meet STC’s insurance requirements;
- Current Canadian Criminal Records Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Check.

**Assets**:

- Ability to use traditional First Nations and Metis teachings as the foundation for programming
- Ability to speak Cree, Saulteaux or Dakota
- Work experience in early childhood programs
