We are seeking a creative, dynamic, committed professional to join our team:
Finance Officer - Financial Planning

100% Regular

Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week

**Union Exempt Level 7**: $83,100 to $97,800 per annum

Reporting to the Team Manager, Financial Planning, the Finance Officer is responsible for preparing supporting documentation that contributes to the development and management of the Board budget, as well as facilitating and reporting on the in-year execution of the financial plan to ensure that sufficient resources are available to meet the Board’s identified priorities. The Finance Officer provides key information to Board staff on financial policy and procedures and develops responses to ad hoc requests for financial information from internal and external stakeholders, providing accurate and informative data and analysis to aid sound financial decision making.

**Key responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
Provides financial management support to departments and schools to ensure that the Board’s financial policies and procedures are followed, and that adequate internal control is maintained.

Contributes to the Department’s Financial Reporting function to provide accurate financial data to internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner.

Prepares annual budget packages - Estimates (Budget) and Revised Estimates (in year updated Budget), for approval by the Board of Trustees and ultimately by the Ministry of Education.

Monitors year to date operating expenditures against the Board approved budget and forecasts total year end operational expenses to ensure the effective use of financial resources

Conducts various analyses in response to ad hoc requests from all levels of the Board providing accurate and relevant data to assist in sound decision making.

**Qualifications**:
A university degree in business administration or commerce and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation are required.

5 years of experience in a financial/management accounting environment (FP&A). Public sector experience would be an asset.

Advanced computer literacy and a proven ability to manage complex databases/spreadsheets using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), SQL and ERP systems.

Organizational, project and change management skills required to respond to multiple priorities and to ensure successful project outcomes;
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to professionally interact with staff at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders including auditors;
Writing skills required when preparing reports that explain financial results;
Public speaking skills required when presenting information to various stakeholder groups which may include committees of the Board;
Research skills to review changes to legislation, regulations and contracts and to assess the impact of these in relation to budget development and reporting activities;
Analytical, troubleshooting and issue resolution skills;
Judgment when investigating issues, making decisions or recommendations;
The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information; and

Familiarity with governance structures, policies and operations of a public school board
