Junior Camp Director/intermediate Camp Assistant

Start date: June 23 - August 11. This is a residential position. There will be training days prior to the start of employment.

Compensation: $6000 for dates noted above. Contract terms include all meals, single room accommodation, and entrance to all excursions and activities. Director will have 1 day off per week.

Established in 1983, MWS Student Camps has welcomed thousands of young people from more than 50 nations to our camps. From the beginning, we have strived to offer and operate innovative, vibrant, and exciting programmes. Our MWS Toronto Camp is centrally located at the University of Toronto allowing us access to so much the city has to offer and providing our students with a full English language immersion experience.

This is a hybrid position that begins as the Assistant to the Intermediate Director and will transfer into the Junior Camp Director as the section grows. As the assistant, they will be responsible for assisting with the intermediate camp operations, programming camp activities, and other organizational aspects of the camp at the discretion of the intermediate director. Our three age groups are: Junior 7-10, Intermediate 11-13, and Senior 14-17.

As the Junior Camp Director, they are responsible for overseeing and supporting the Junior section Camp Leaders in their roles. The director will be responsible for overseeing the Junior camp operations, creating camper groups, programming camp activities, and other organizational aspects of the camp. They will lead the Junior section on excursions and be responsible for programming various activities. They will run meetings with their section staff and provide feedback/evaluations of their work. This role reports to the Intermediate Camp Director.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

- Organize and supervise the Junior camp during activities, excursions, meals, etc.
- Responsible for the Junior section staff and evaluations
- Cover for junior/intermediate camp leaders and J/I camp director when necessary
- Work with MWS staff to create an inclusive camp community
- Support with training activities and workshops
- Work cooperatively with MWS leaders and staff to ensure campers are safe, healthy, and happy
- Promote and display MWS values
- Maintain camper and staff confidentiality at all times

Qualifications & Experience:

- Post-Secondary student or higher
- Fluent in English
- Experience in a director and/or program role is an asset
- Volunteer and/or work experience with youth in a camp setting and/or educational environment
- Fluency in other languages is an asset but not required
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and appreciated of diversity and social inclusivity
- Able to work collaboratively with directors and leaders
- Strong conflict resolution skills

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 7 weeks

**Salary**: $6,000.00 per year
