Bring your excellent investigative and communication skills to our team as an Investigator in the College’s Professional Conduct and Regulatory Affairs (PCRA) department.
The PCRA department responds to inquiries from the public about dental concerns, investigates the conduct of dentists, provides support to the College’s Inquiries, Complaints and Reports (ICR) Committee and Discipline Committee in their decision-making roles, and enforces committee decisions.
You are an organized self-starter with excellent oral and written communications skills with a keen eye for detail. You will use knowledge of the profession’s governing legislation to impartially investigate complaints and Registrar’s investigations against Ontario dentists. As part of a team of investigators, you will manage investigations with the support of the department’s administrative staff. Investigations are presented to the College’s ICR Committee for review and decision-making. This role reports to the Team Lead, Investigations.
What can I expect to do in this role?
**Reporting to the Team Lead, Investigations, you will**:
- Investigate complaints and reports, which may involve interviewing witnesses, requesting records and information from various sources, analyzing information, and preparing reports for the Registrar and/or the ICR Committee
- Review dentists’ responses to complaints and reports and attend dental offices as required
- Manage case files using the College’s electronic case management system to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the process and to adhere to legislated requirements and timelines
- Respond to inquiries from parties and provide information about the College and the complaints or reports processes, and document contacts for the case files
- Review and disclose records of investigation (ROIs) to parties
- Represent the College with all external stakeholders, including at the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board (HPARB), as required
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Travel within Ontario may be required
- Other duties as assigned
What skills and background do I need?
**The Investigator requires**:
- Completion of a university degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated experience and training with various investigative techniques and superior investigation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize and present information in an objective and neutral manner
- Proven ability to manage difficult situations and demonstrate tact, discretion, and sensitivity
- Superior verbal and written communication skills and ability to professionally engage a variety of stakeholders
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment by using excellent case management skills to achieve results within expected timelines
- Organization, time management and planning skills with proven ability to manage and deliver multiple and competing priorities
- Self-starter with the ability to work with mínimal direction and supervision
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills; a collaborative team player with an ability to work both independently and within a team
- Sound judgement and ability to work objectively and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to think critically and try different approaches to solve a problem
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products and Zoom
- Being a Regulated Health Professional, LL.B or equivalent is an asset
- Knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), related legislation, and administrative tribunal procedures is an asset
- Experience with dispute resolution, negotiation and/or trauma-informed approaches is an asset
- Knowledge of dental practice operations is an asset
- RCDSO is building its bilingual (French/English) capacity and excellent French language proficiency is an asset
Compensation and Total Rewards
- Base annual hiring salary from $102,316.99 to $115,106.61 (pro-rated for the duration of the contract), commensurate with experience
