You will serve as a Senior Mechanical Engineer and will guide the development and introduction of our mechanical systems as required to meet overall system requirements.You will be a key technical resource in the evaluation, design, implementation, and troubleshooting of complex systems for our product and development needs. You will be an indispensable member of a nimble, energetic, and multi-disciplinary mechanical engineering team within the engineering group. In this role you will work closely with the processor development, electrical, and cryogenic teams.What Youll DoEnsure the technical success of internal mechanical projects from proposal, through design, prototype development, validation, new product introduction, manufacturing and sustaining engineeringContribute to the continuous development of the entire system which includes the cryogenic system, input-output electrical systems, processor interface, machine control, electrical systems, reliability, and new technologyIdentify and develop Intellectual PropertyLead teams in building new systems in both our lab and at customer sitesTroubleshoot mechanical, electrical, cryogenic, and instrumentation problems in the lab and in the fieldCreate, maintain, execute, and document sub-systems/products for failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) including unit validation and diagnostic test plansOrganize, prepare, and present technical information in a clear, effective, and skillful manner within engineering, to other cross-functional teams, and to managementContribute to the development and application of company tools and processLead design reviews and provide technical feedbackManage changes to the system using industry-standard change management tools (ECR, ECO, etc.)Recruit and mentor new team membersLead and proactively demonstrate safety to our team including writing SOPsAbout YouDegree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum, 7 years of engineering work including technical leadership experience4+ years of experience in complex multi-disciplinary productsExperience in the product development cycle through stable production including New Product IntroductionMust be willing to work flexible hours during busy periods (on-call rotation participation will be required)Excellence in:Critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solvingEngineering and physics with strong multi-disciplinary technical skillsWritten and verbal communication skillsOrganizational and decision-making skillsSelf-motivated, proactive, flexible, and passionate about learningProficient in technical writing including customer-facing documentationExperience dealing with customers in a technical settingAbility to work well in a fast-paced team environment that is focused on priorities and end resultsThrives in a highly dynamic multi-disciplinary working environmentAbility to move quickly and make decisions with limited and sometimes contradictory informationYou absolutely love fixing things and are passionate about providing the highest level of customer supportDesired QualificationsThermal design of complex systems preferably with cryogenic systemsCommercial construction, millwright, mechanic, electrician, or building maintenanceRegulatory Compliance (CSA/UL/CE)Basic machine toolsPrecision mechanicsMechanical, electrical, automotive, or bicycle repairCreative hobbies – sewing, painting, woodworking, etc.Additional RequirementsWillingness and ability to travel customer sites located across North America and Europe on occasion (~10%)Ability to obtain work authorization in the USAAbility to quickly obtain and maintain required security clearances as needed and to work on-site with highly secure and sensitive customers (which may include a background check)A D-Waver's DNAWe look at the future and say “why not”; we see possibilities where others see problems or routines.
