Executive Director – Cardiac Sciences Alberta Health Services is seeking an Executive Director to lead the Cardiac Sciences portfolio at the University of Alberta Hospital. This position provides strategic and operational oversight for the cardiac program at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the CK Hui Heart Centre, including ambulatory care, procedural care and Cardiac Rehabilitation. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Executive Director will develop, implement and evaluate strategic and operational plans, enhance patient experience and outcomes, and ensure alignment with organizational goals and vision. The role requires managing a budget of approximately $165 million annually, leading over 1,000 staff via twelve direct reports, and promoting a culture of safety and continuous quality improvement. Reporting to the Senior Operating Officer, the role partners with physician leaders to drive transformational change, foster strong relationships with site, community, academic and provincial partners, and continuously improve service delivery and quality of care. Responsibilities Provide strategic and operational leadership for cardiac clinical teams and programs across the continuum of care. Develop and implement strategic and operational plans aligned with organizational goals. Steward financial, human and capital resources in a dynamic environment. Promote a culture of safety, quality improvement, collaboration and innovation. Lead transformation by championing engagement, collaboration and innovation within the portfolio. Build and sustain relationships with external partners to advance excellence in service delivery. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare profession and a clinical background in acute care. Minimum five (5) years of progressive senior leadership or director level experience in a comparable healthcare organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Successful record as an operational leader in strategic planning and service delivery. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex issues. Experience leading within the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework across its five domains. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client‑focused orientation and commitment to long‑term quality services. Ability to foster internal and external partnerships to develop high‑performing teams. Preferred Qualifications Graduate degree in health services leadership, business administration or evidence of working toward completion. Canadian College of Healthcare Leaders Certified Health Executive designation or similar. Experience as an Executive Director or Director leading an operational zone or provincial programs in an acute care setting. Experience leading Cardiac Sciences programs in a comparable academic setting.
