Senior Electrical Satellite Systems Engineer Base pay range: $80.00/hr - $100.00/hr Employment type: Contract Seniority level: Mid-Senior level Location: Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec, Canada Responsibilities Support the current design of electrical subsystems through final flight design, build, and test (System design and development). Support and maintain flow-down system requirements, verification, and test matrices from the mission level down to individual subsystems (Requirements management). Perform and manage various analyses, including power budgets, failure mode analysis and reliability (Technical analysis). Manage and oversee interface control documents (ICDs) to ensure proper electrical connections between subsystems (Interface control). Develop and oversee the execution of test plans, test requirements, and procedures to verify and validate the satellite's performance from Qual models and all the way to LEOP phase (Testing and verification). Prepare and maintain various technical documents, including design reports, specifications, and verification matrices (Documentation). Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, and collaborate with other teams like software, mechanical, and ground segment (Team leadership). Monitor and collaborate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure they meet program requirements (Supplier and project management). Support all major program reviews, such as System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Test readiness Review (TRR), Pre-Shipment Review (PSR), Launch Readiness Review (LRR) (Program support). Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. Experience: 15+ years of experience in a satellite systems design in LEO Constellation, with a strong background in the full satellite product lifecycle. Lead the definition of spacecraft electrical system architecture, ensuring optimal payload–bus integration and alignment with mission objectives. Develop and maintain system-level documentation including the Satellite Reference Database, Satellite Parameter Book, and Concept of Operations (CONOPS). Oversee subsystem interfaces and ensure coherent integration across avionics, power, AOCS, propulsion, TT&C, thermal, and data handling domains. Own the requirement management process, including definition, flow down, traceability, and governance across the project lifecycle. Conduct gap analyses and ensure that derived subsystem requirements meet mission-level performance and reliability targets. Define and validate electrical performance budgets (power, data, thermal, fault management). Lead and participate in all V&V phases including electrical ground testing (Qual testing, TVAC, EMC/EMI Auto-Compatibility), functional verification, and environmental qualification. Drive fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) strategy and contribute to flight software development and validation. Lead and support system-level integration testing, ensuring functional consistency and design compliance. Oversee readiness for launch, early orbit (LEOP), and end-of-rendezvous (EOR) operations. Interface with launcher providers, ensuring compliance with mission integration and environmental requirements (Operations & Launch Support). Provide technical oversight and engineering leadership during Launch Campaigns, LEOP, and IOT (In-Orbit Testing). Support development and operation of the Satellite Operations Control Center (SOCC), including command databases, telemetry monitoring, and fault analysis. Define and execute anomaly resolution procedures in coordination with mission operations teams. Engage with customers and satellite operators on complex technical topics with clarity and precision (Stakeholder Communication & Leadership). Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of systems thinking, traceability, and disciplined engineering practice. Lead and document design reviews, ensuring compliance with internal and external mission assurance standards (e.g., ECSS, PUS STD). Experience with flight engineering software, Agile methods, modeling tools, and potentially simulation software (e.g., MATLAB for ex) (Software and tools). Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders (Communication). A strong ability to solve complex problems and a comfort with working in an environment with a high degree of ambiguity (Problem-solving).
