The Grande Prairie Division is currently recruiting for a Woodlands GIS - Planning Forester.Reporting to the Planning Superintendent AB, the Woodlands GIS/Planning Forester will be engaged in a diverse and dynamic role within the Alberta Woodlands Team as the coordinator of the Woodlands Information System and working with the Woodlands Planning Team to complete Forest Harvest Plans. A large focus on West Fraser's commitment to safety, health, and the environment is also required.You’ll Do:Participate actively in the West Fraser Safety Management system to achieve an injury-free work environment.Develop Final Harvest Plans, including completing block and road operational plans, resolving issues related to wildlife, archaeological resources, aesthetic management, watershed concerns, and consulting with First Nations, Metis Settlements, trappers, grazing interests, and other industrial users.Supervise field layout contractors to ensure high-quality harvest designs are submitted for government approval and that silviculture activities meet standards.Develop General Development Plans for timber tenures and negotiate approvals with the Government of Alberta and key stakeholders.Develop and submit Annual Operating Plans, negotiating approvals with the Government of Alberta.Create layout packages and manage contractors.Participate in fieldwork, including block layout, audits, and pre-harvest assessments.Liaise with the Operations Group to ensure operational plans align with operational needs.Utilize and update West Fraser’s Woodlands Information System for planning data management.Create and manage map templates, input and store spatial data, and complete spatial data directives.Collaborate with Trimble to streamline woodlands data processes and develop tools/models to improve efficiency.You Have:Experience as a planning forester is preferred.Completion of an accredited forest-related post-secondary program and registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals (AAFMP).Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and organizational abilities, high energy, and a commitment to teamwork.Operational planning experience and familiarity with GIS and information management systems are required.Preference for candidates eligible or currently members of AAFMP with at least 5 years of forestry experience.A valid Class 5 driver’s license.Proficiency with LRM, ESRI GIS products, and MS Office applications is an asset.What We Offer:Competitive salary with annual bonus potential.
