And as Ontario’s largest municipally-owned producer of green power, we are leading the way to a greener tomorrow.We are seeking a Smart Grid Engineer, a strategic thinker who can take initiatives from concept to completion and engineer the way to a smart energy future.Are you ready to make a difference in our community?JOB SUMMARYThe Smart Grid Engineer is responsible for assessing, developing and enhancing new and existing technologies used to support the efficient operations of Hydro Ottawa’s distribution grid. This includes evaluating and supporting the development of new technology, methodologies, and related business processes for the purposes of enhancing reliability, durability and flexibility of the grid in order to maximize the return on investment of distribution assets. This role will need to leverage key relationships within the Chief Information Technology and the Chief Electricity Distribution divisions to successfully execute a variety of projects. This role will support grid technology section functions including project management, planning, and budgeting inputs.This role assists in the development of advanced utility applications and supporting infrastructure used to control, monitor and analyze the distribution grid. There is significant emphasis on understanding the day-to-day operation of distribution grids and the role new technology plays. There is significant input into the strategic direction of smart grid technology deployment and the future needs of Hydro Ottawa’s customers. This role provides support and assistance for developing and updating standards and processes for materials, equipment, and design of supporting technology for the electric distribution system.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESIdentify and develop solutions that enhance the use of Grid Technology systems and applicationsProvide technical support to the Grid Technology Support, stations, and distribution field staffEvaluate and manage new Grid Technology projectsCreate analysis work flows and associated business processes for the benefit of customer departmentsAssist in setting strategic direction for Grid Technology systems and applicationsParticipate in the development of Hydro Ottawa’s smart grid roadmapSupport the development and use of data analytics to improve grid efficiency and maximize distribution asset lifeWork co-operatively with other technology teams to enhance system and application functionality, availability, and securityPrepare budget briefs for projects and participate in overall budget and business planning processesProvide input into system planning and distribution system standards and technology standardsEvaluate new technology, software, and equipmentAssist with managing and coordinating the successful completion of special projects as requiredSpecial projects as requiredPerform other duties as requiredEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEUndergraduate degree in Engineering from an accredited universityProfessional Engineer, licensed or able to be licensed in the province of OntarioStrong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G SuiteExperience in an electric utility engineering environment considered an assetProject Management and/or PMP Certification considered an assetExperience with advanced grid applications (SCADA, ADMS, OMS, GIS) considered an assetKnowledge of Fibre Optic communications technology (including planning and management considered an asset)Knowledge of wireless communications technology (LTE, fixed point-to-point, point-to-multipoint) considered an assetADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSEnglish essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (French/English) considered an assetThis is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.Hydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model.
