Assistant Controller Allterrain Contracting Inc. is a leading civil construction firm in HRM, known for its expertise in earthworks, subdivision construction, pipe work, and large-scale building projects. Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Controller to support our Controller in managing the organization’s financial operations. The organization operates in construction, aggregates, and real estate holding companies. This role is ideal for someone with strong accounting knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with the controller and owner managers. Responsibilities Assist the Controller in preparing internal financial statements and reports. Assist with GST/HST filings and ensure compliance with tax regulations. Help oversee payroll processing and maintain accurate employee records. Post journal entries and maintain the general ledger. Handle accounts payable functions. Support financial planning, budgeting, and project analysis. Coordinate with external tax and assurance advisors to ensure timely accurate reporting. Contribute to process improvements and internal controls. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA designation or working toward CPA is an asset). Experience: 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a similar role or accounting firm. Strong understanding of the construction and real estate industry is an asset. Strong knowledge of ASPE/GAAP, income tax, GST/HST, and payroll compliance. Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
