DescriptionReporting to the Senior Director, Operations or Program Manager, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is employed in a variety of settings across the continuum of care including acute care and continuing care. The NP uses an evidence-informed holistic approach that emphasizes the nursing professions' values, expertise and education. The majority of time is spent in clinical practice where the NP role includes, but is not limited to, diagnosing and managing common and complex health conditions, promoting health and preventing illness/injury, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other therapies and performing procedures, interventions and/or treatments. The NP performs restricted activities within their scope of practice as defined by Schedule 24 of the Health Professions Act, the Registered Nurses Profession Regulations, and the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). In some clinical settings, the NP is considered the most responsible provider. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUNP Collective Agreement. Diagnose and manage common and complex health conditions Promote health and prevent illness/injury Order and interpret diagnostic tests Prescribe pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other therapies Perform procedures, interventions and/or treatments Work within the NP scope of practice as defined by applicable regulations Collaborate across units and teams as a critical support to a multidisciplinary care team Responsibilities Unit and Program: Medicine Program including Units 1 East, 2 East, 4 East, 7 East, 7 West, 8 East and 8 West, with primary location Misericordia Community Hospital FTE: 1.00 Required QualificationsSuccessful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program at a Master of Nursing level. Must possess relevant and recent clinical expertise within the stream of practice. Must be eligible for licensure with CRNA as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be appropriately licensed with the clinical practice stream relevant to area of clinical employment. Additional Required QualificationsCertification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Minimum of two (2) years acute care experience required. Family of all ages and/or adult streams of licensure. Preferred QualificationsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and function independently. Works well in a fast-paced environment under pressure and stressful situations. Application and knowledge of current research. Experience in a wide range of assessment, treatment and therapeutic interventions, health promotion, diagnostic procedures, and follow-up care. Must practice within full scope of their knowledge in an interdisciplinary team environment.
