Our Hospital is a dynamic environment where teamwork and compassion are at the forefront of everything we do.What You Will Be DoingThe Charge Medical Laboratory Technologist - Core oversees the day-to-day activities of the Core Laboratory (focused on Point of Care and Clinical Chemistry), including staffing, work schedules, task assignment, training, evaluation of new methods, quality control and quality assurance.This role provides the technical skills required to perform and report laboratory procedures in the areas of Hematology, Point of Care, Clinical Chemistry, and Transfusion Medicine through analysis and examination of specimens. It includes accountability for accurate results, writing procedures/policies, and recognizing interdependencies of tests, physiology and other conditions that affect test results. This role will collaborate in the development of the laboratory\'s strategic functional and operational plans.In addition to serving as a positive role model and mentor, the Charge Medical Laboratory Technologist’s responsibilities include and are not limited to: providing technical resource to staff, developing/maintaining policies and standard operating procedures, and the validation and assessment of procedures and equipment.The Laboratory Charge Technologist is also responsible and accountable for the technical component of all laboratory disciplines, ensuring satisfactory turnaround times.What You Must HaveCurrent registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)Diploma in Medical Laboratory TechnologyMinimum of six (6) years previous clinical laboratory experienceKnowledge of Accreditation Canada Diagnostics laboratory accreditation requirements and experience with the accreditation processStrong team building and demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and teach others during times of change and shifting prioritiesProven time management, prioritization, organization and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated knowledge, understanding of, and ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, both within and outside the hospitalAbility to work independently and make sound judgments involving technical and confidential materialDemonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and Cerner LIS/Patient Information SystemsDemonstrated commitment to ongoing professional developmentHighly developed evidence-based critical thinking skills with an innovative approach to analyzing and solving problems, decision making, planning and evaluation skillsEffective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with ability to positively influence others and develop trusting internal and external relationshipsPhysical ability to carry out the essential duties of the positionAbility to regularly attend work in accordance with the Attendance Support ProgramAcceptable performance record that is aligned with STEGH values and code of conductWhat We Prefer You to HaveCertificate/Diploma in Quality Management from a recognized institutionThree (3) years supervisory experience or progressive leadership experience within the laboratoryKey operator or advanced training on laboratory equipmentDemonstrated training, experience and utilization of LEAN methodologies for process improvementHoursThe successful candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department.
