Overview The New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees, representing over 10,500 members, is looking for a Bilingual Legal Officer to join our team in Fredericton. The successful candidate will represent the union and its members at grievance arbitration and handle grievance file settlements. The bilingual Legal Officer will appear before all levels of court and administrative boards and tribunals, conduct legal research, and provide legal opinions when required. Some travel is required. The position reports directly to the Executive Director. Responsibilities Represent the union and its members at grievance arbitration and negotiate grievance file settlements. Appear before all levels of court and administrative boards and tribunals. Conduct legal research and provide legal opinions when required. Travel as needed and work under the supervision of the Executive Director. Qualifications Law degree and membership or eligibility to be a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick. Excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work as part of a team and independently. Experience appearing before boards/arbitrators in labour/employment matters is an asset. Written and spoken proficiency in English and French. Compensation and Benefits Competitive compensation package including a pension plan. 100% paid health and dental benefits, a 35-hour work week, overtime paid at time-and-a-half, retirement allowance, yearly wellness allowance, free parking, professional dues and insurance paid by the employer, reduced summer hours, professional development opportunities, and other benefits as outlined in the NBU staff collective agreement. Salary range: from $4,097 bi-weekly to $5,232 bi-weekly. Des déplacements occasionnels sont requis. Le poste relève directement de la direction générale. Qualifications : La personne retenue devra être titulaire d’un diplôme en droit et être membre ou admissible à devenir membre du Barreau du Nouveau-Brunswick. Elle devra aussi posséder d’excellentes aptitudes en communication, négociation, relations interpersonnelles et résolution de problèmes, ainsi qu’une capacité à travailler en équipe ou de façon autonome. Une expérience de représentation devant des conseils ou arbitres dans le droit du travail ou de l’emploi constitue un atout. Une maîtrise du français et de l’anglais à l’oral et à l’écrit est requise. Rémunération et avantages : Le SNB offre un régime de rémunération attrayant comprenant un régime de retraite, une assurance maladie et dentaire entièrement payés, une semaine de travail de 35 heures, les heures supplémentaires payées à taux d’heure supplémentaire, une indemnité de départ à la retraite, une allocation annuelle de mieux-être, stationnement gratuit, cotisations professionnelles et assurances payées par l’employeur, horaire d’été réduit, possibilités de perfectionnement professionnel et de nombreux autres avantages prévus à la convention collective.
