Sr. Legal Counsel OpenText OpenText is a global leader in information management. Your Impact We are seeking a commercial Senior Legal Counsel for the in‑house legal team, focusing on commercial transactions for an established but growing line of business. Responsibilities include negotiating and drafting a wide variety of commercial technology agreements (cloud services, software licenses, professional services), advising cross‑functional groups, researching new product offerings, handling escalations, analyzing transactions, evaluating risk, updating templates, creating and delivering training, and managing legal projects. What The Role Offers Working effectively in a fast‑paced environment Managing multiple responsibilities Understanding the complexities of a multi‑faced business Reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements (extra credit for software & SaaS) Communicating complex matters clearly and solving problems practically Building positive working relationships with teammates, subject matter experts, internal clients, and customers Providing high quality, practical support to business Working with systems and processes Triage and prioritization What You Need To Succeed Interest in learning new technologies and business models; vision to create new templates, streamline processes, and participate in decision‑making. Strong experience working in a legal department or law firm handling commercial matters. 6+ years relevant experience negotiating technology contracts. Enthusiastic, hard‑working, team‑player, confident at senior level. Experience in regulated industries and data privacy/security a plus. Hands‑on experience drafting, negotiating, and providing guidance on software licensing, hosted/cloud product agreements, professional services, maintenance & support contracts. Knowledge of the IT sector and assisting sales executives. Background in contract support across business functions (sales, marketing, engineering, internal clients). Ability to advise management on risks and mitigation strategies. Good judgment, integrity, attention to detail. Creativity and professionalism. Preference will be given to applicants based in Canada.
