About The Role As a Claims Consultant in the Property Large Loss team, you will handle multi‑line complex claims through all distribution channels, directly managing and monitoring complex first‑party and third‑party claims with exposures in Canada and internationally. The types of losses may include Commercial Property, Energy, Equipment Breakdown, Environmental Liability and additional Specialty Claims. You will perform settlement of complex claims, civil liability or property damage, manage disputes or alternative dispute resolution bodies, analyse claims and provisions, contribute to unit priorities, provide expertise and mentoring, and participate in the budget process. Workplace: National What You’ll Do Here Manage, investigate, analyse, negotiate and resolve large and complex commercial property claims generally with exposures over $1M or involving specialised loss types within Canada and internationally. Engage and manage internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability and assess damages. Mentor, guide and provide technical advice to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long‑term succession planning. Train colleagues on complex claims handling. Work with Underwriting, Loss Prevention and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards and trends, sharing feedback and lessons learned. Provide brilliant customer service to brokers, customers and colleagues. Deliver and exceed on all key performance indicators relating to loss development, loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control and expense management. Leverage your expertise in a creative, continuous‑improvement environment to support a best‑practice operations model. Effectively negotiate claims when appropriate. Attend settlement conferences and trials. Attend loss locations and other client and broker meetings when appropriate. Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements. Undergraduate degree or CIP designation (asset). Flexible to travel as needed.
