Selkirk Elementary School is a dual-track English / French elementary school, Grades K-7, with a student population of approximately 380. Key to Selkirk Elementary School’s philosophy is the incorporation of social‑emotional learning, developmentally responsive practice and structured literacy and numeracy programming. School : Selkirk Elementary School Location : Whitehorse Position : Temporary Intensive French Teacher FTE : 1.0 Start Date : January 12 2026 End Date : June 12 2026 Assignment : Grade 5 Intensive French Teacher QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience: Bachelor of Education or equivalent with a specialization in Intensive French, French Immersion, First‑Language French teacher or FSL qualifications; Experience teaching at the elementary level; Bilingual written and spoken French and English language; Experience teaching students performing at wide-ranging levels of achievement and with diverse learning styles; Experience teaching Intensive French would be an asset; DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY Candidates should have and may be assessed on their: Knowledge of effective instructional practices in structured literacy and numeracy, including the ability to apply assessment for learning and student learning; Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population; Strong ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities; Ability to use developmentally responsive approaches to develop effective relationships with students; Experience in strong classroom management by setting clear routines and fostering a positive, structured learning environment; Ability to assess students’ learning and report progress to parents/guardians using Assessment for Learning and outcome‑based grading principles on a competency‑based curricular framework; Excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, consultants and community agencies; Willingness and ability to participate in the total school program; An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the school community.
