Senior Developer

The Senior Developer role is with the Calgary Board of Education (CBE). This position delivers high quality software solutions across the CBE application ecosystem and environments, using the latest Microsoft technologies and other CBE approved tools.The CBE supports a flexible work program allowing remote work up to three days per week, with a minimum of two days in the office. At times, you may be required to work in the office more than two days per week based on operational requirements.Responsibilities:Conducts all aspects of design, development and implementation related to new software solutions as well as modification of existing systems and solutionsDesigns, builds, documents, implements and supports interfaces, automations, and the reengineering of processes related to applications or systemsEnsures systems perform reliably and consistently with end user expectationsDevelops strategies and implements plans for keeping applications and systems currentProvides other IT supportFor full details, please visit the CBE websiteQualifications:Education and Experience:Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (or equivalent degree in information technology)5 years of current hands-on experience in software development, in the design, development and implementation of new web applications, mobile applications and system integrations using Microsoft technologies and industry best practicesExperience should include:Designing OLTP databasesWriting technical documentationGathering business requirementsTranslating business requirements into detailed technical specificationsFamiliarity with continuous build and integration frameworks, SOLID design principles, Test-driven Development (TDD) and automated unit/regression testingFamiliarity with visual design/responsive design and user experiences for web and mobile devicesExperience with Microsoft technologies including SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, T-SQL, stored procedures, functions, Visual Studio, Team Foundation ServerExperience with cloud development in Azure using the Microsoft stack is an assetMicrosoft developer certifications or other applicable certifications are assetsFamiliarity with ITIL or ITIL Certification is an assetAn equivalent combination of related post-secondary education and related experience may be consideredDemonstrated Skills and Competencies:Extensive development and support experience in a large, complex environmentStrong debugging and problem-solving skills and the ability to work on complex problems in a demanding environmentFamiliarity with standards-based development methodologies (Waterfall, Prototyping, RAD/Agile)Familiarity with Scrum Master and/or Project Management approachesSelf-driven with the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologiesStrong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skillsAbility to provide broad technical leadershipAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients and vendorsAbility to converse effectively with business users about technology mattersStrong organizational, multi-tasking and time management skillsAbility to work independently on medium to large tasks in a team environmentAbility to produce status reports for varied audiences and work under pressureAbility to handle ambiguity and commit to continuous learningPersonal suitabilityExtensive hands-on experience with development in Azure Environment using the Microsoft Technology Stack is a strong asset.Competition Close Date: Tuesday, September 16, 2025 @ 11:59 PMSalary: Staff Association Grade I/J, $47.86 to $65.52 per hourFTE: 1.0, 35 hours/week #J-18808-Ljbffr
