Grounded in safety, quality, and ethics, Stantec’s Environmental Services Group delivers a wide range of environmental services and collaborates with top professionals to serve clients and communities.Your OpportunityStantec has an opportunity for a Senior Environmental Geochemist / Mine Water Quality Specialist with a strong water quality background to join our Environmental Services team. The successful candidate will contribute to water quality and geochemistry field programs, environmental assessments, and environmental permitting activities for mining projects, with flexibility on office location and relocation assistance available.ResponsibilitiesPromote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment ProgramSupport geochemical and water quality components of projects including environmental assessments, models, and monitoring programsLead multi-discipline teams with water-related mining projects, including geochemists, water quality specialists, hydrogeologists, and engineersLead complex projects with initiative and independence across a broad knowledge baseProvide guidance to clients, project managers, and technical staff on mining-related water issuesLead water quality and quantity model projectsInterpret and analyze data, providing technical support for water resource and environmental projectsPerform research related to specific technical issues or projectsCollaborate with other scientific and engineering professionals on baseline and impact assessment projects, feasibility studies, groundwater and surface water assessments, contaminant investigations, and rehabilitation projectsPrepare technical reports and perform QA/QC of technical documentsPerform data analysis and data visualization using technical softwareConduct and support fieldwork as neededAssist with proposal development and project task financial and schedule managementQualificationsFluent understanding of Canadian and provincial water quality guidelines, legislation, regulations, licensing and permitting related to mining in British Columbia, Ontario, and Atlantic CanadaAbility and willingness to travel to lead field crews or participate in off-site meetings with clients and/or regulatory agenciesFundamental project-task management skillsProven ability to analyze field and technical data, conduct research, and solve problemsStrong organizational and communication skills (written, verbal, and graphical)Strong technical aptitude and time management skillsSolid computer skills including Microsoft Office; knowledge of water chemistry and contaminant transport modeling software (e.g., Goldsim, PHREEQC, Minteq, MIN3P) and ExcelExperience preparing environmental assessments/impact statements and other regulatory applicationsMinimum of a B.Sc. in Geochemistry, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or Earth Sciences/Engineering with a focus on geochemistry; advanced degree preferredMinimum of 10+ years of relevant mining sector consulting experience (15+ years preferred) including mine waste geochemistry assessment, water quality predictions, modelling, or related impactsProfessional registration or eligibility (P.Geo. or P.Eng.)Valid Driver’s LicenseBenefitsExcellent and comprehensive healthcare and dental benefitsWellness plans supporting mental, physical, social, and financial well-beingRegistered retirement savings plan and employee stock purchase plan with employer contributionsFormalized career planning and development processAdditional InformationPrimary Location: Canada | ON | MarkhamTravel: YesSchedule: Full timeEmployment type: Regular #J-18808-Ljbffr
