Position: Health & Safety Manager

The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and maintaining all safety programs, regulatory programs, and safety policies. All aspects of safety fall under the control and responsibility of the Safety Manager including:

  1. Regulatory programs
  2. Weekly and monthly reporting
  3. Workers Compensation
  4. Company safety policies
  5. Medical First Responder
  6. Hazard identification
  7. Injury Case Management and trending
  8. Management of Change
  9. Regulatory/Safety Training
  10. Safety budget

This position will report to the plant manager and will be part of the plant leadership team.

Your Day to Day Responsibilities:
  1. Manage, develop, and review Regulatory Programs.
  2. Manage, develop, and review Plant and Corporate Safety Policies.
  3. Manage, assign, track, and report all Regulatory and Safety Training.
  4. Manage Workers Compensation Cases including doctor visits, case reviews, light duty job offers, reports, and financial forecast.
  5. Provide hazard identification training for all employees, conduct plant audits, develop solutions, track, and report.
  6. Control the Health & Safety Budget (PPE, safety supplies, medical first aid).
  7. Prepare weekly and monthly reporting for all aspects of the safety program.
  8. Ensure first responders are trained and available.
  9. Support leadership in investigations and root cause analysis. Manage IM and Case Management.
  10. Perform safety reviews for Management of Change.
  11. May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and current Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) status.
  • Experience in a large-scale manufacturing environment highly preferred.
  • Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) certified and experienced Certificate of Recognition (COR) Auditor required.
  • Knowledge/Understanding of Alberta occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge/Understanding of ANSI Standards and/or CSA.
  • Knowledge/Understanding of NFPA Standards.
  • Knowledge/Understanding of Workers Compensation ACT.
  • Knowledge/Understanding of Hazard Recognition.
  • Knowledge and experience in First Aid, AED, CPR preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Solid interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to support a 24 x 7 operation.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work and partner with Plant Leadership team.
  • Minimal travel required (0 – 10 days per year).
  • May be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to and including 50 pounds.
  • Work environment is typical of an office/manufacturing plant setting. When working in the plant, may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.
