The T4 mechanic works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and mentors other Ryder technicians on a regular basis. The Technician IV mechanic provides the highest level of experience and expertise in vehicle diagnostics and repair. The position also plays a key role in the leadership, development and training of other grade technicians. The T4 mechanic may specialize in areas such as refrigeration, electronics, exhaust systems, etc., and should possess a combination of extensive vehicle transportation experience, ASE certifications, and/or multiple Ryder Qualifications.Essential FunctionsPerforms vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard maintenance, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs with minimal support. Diagnoses and repairs complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal support, utilizing diagnostic computers/software. Performs remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution to assist roadside breakdowns.Interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of the complaint; instructs and advises other technicians regarding maintenance, repair procedures, and diagnostics. Coaches/mentors other level technicians. Advises shop management and other technicians on shop repairs.Performs facility maintenance duties and uses Shop Management System and electronic documentation.Works in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT).Other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support).Additional ResponsibilitiesTire and Wheel maintenance: TW220 certification, repair and replace tire and wheel assemblies, diagnose tire-related issues, and perform wear analysis.Preventive Maintenance: PM230 & PM298 trained within 90 days; mentor technicians and conduct quality PM inspections.Brakes - Air and Hydraulic: 90-day training requirements; inspect, adjust, overhaul, and repair brake systems; meet FMCS 396.25 requirements where applicable.A/C, Heater & Refrigeration: 90/180 day training requirements; perform system checks, identify leaks, service charging equipment, and diagnose related problems.Cargo handling/Transfer, Liftgates; Charging systems; Cranking systems; Lighting systems and electrical accessories; Clutch; Cooling systems; Drive axles; Drive line; Diesel and gas engines; Fuel systems; Steering and non-driven axles; Suspension-Chassis and Cab; Vehicle coupling system; and related diagnostics and repairs.Decision making: Responsible for decisions surrounding vehicle diagnostics and repair.Skills And AbilitiesStrong mechanical skills with proficiency in diagnostics, overhaul and repair of vehicle components and systems.Ability to read/listen and understand information; strong verbal and written communication.Highly thorough and dependable; on-call, shift work, and weekend availability.Ability to build professional relationships across the organization; work independently or as part of a team.Flexible, fast-paced, multi-tasking, highly organized with excellent time management; detail oriented with strong follow-up.Proficient in computer use (PC, Windows).QualificationsHS diploma/GED preferredVocational/Technical certification preferred; post-secondary degree or technical certificationsBasic tools requiredExperience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including preventive maintenance, diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems); major engine repairs and diesel aftertreatment or fuel injection repairsFour+ years of relevant work experience preferredCDL CLASS A preferredAll other location-specific certifications as requiredTravelNot specifiedSafety SensitiveNon-Regulated TechDOT Regulated: Regulated TechJob Category: TechniciansCompensationThe compensation offered may be influenced by experience, education, location, and market data.
