Inspection Specialist - Licensing Government of Alberta – Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Job Information Job Title: Inspection Specialist – Licensing Job Requisition ID: 77559 Ministry: Agriculture and Irrigation (AGI) Location: Edmonton (may consider Red Deer, Vermilion, others) Position Type: Full Time, Permanent Hours: 36.25 per week (Monday to Friday 08:15–16:30) Scope: Open Competition Closing Date: December 1, 2025 Classification: Technologies 5 Salary: $2,666.42 to $3,511.85 bi-weekly ($69,594–$91,659 per year) AGI is responsible for policies, legislation, regulations, programs and services that support Alberta’s agriculture and food sectors. Role Responsibilities Conduct licensing activities for provincially licensed meat and dairy facilities. Guide applicants through the licensing process, including application, renewal, and administration. Assess compliance with legislation, prioritize non‑conformances using a risk‑based approach. Collect and submit samples as required for inspection, enforcement and surveillance. Provide technical advice on construction and renovation plans for facilities. Communicate with staff and stakeholders regarding licence status and compliance matters. Support incident and emergency response related to licensing. Participate in projects and initiatives that advance the goals of MDIS, AGI. Competencies Drive for Results – exceeds goals, partners with others. Qualifications Two‑year technical diploma in Food Safety, Animal Science, Microbiology, Animal Health or related field. Minimum four (4) years of directly related experience in provincial or federal meat inspection, safety industry, or equivalent. HACCP certification (preferred). Extensive knowledge of food safety principles for slaughter, meat and dairy processing. Experience in licensing and assessment of facilities. Assets Understanding of regulatory requirements (food safety, animal welfare, waste disposal, building codes). Auditing experience and ability to analyze operations, identify problems and solutions. Professional skepticism and competency in audit principles. Training in handling difficult people (e.g., verbal judo). Notes Job Locations may include Edmonton, Red Deer, Vermilion or others.
