Senior Accountant – Job Summary The Senior Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial data. They will collaborate closely with other members of the finance team to streamline accounting processes, identify efficiencies, and provide insights that support informed business decisions. Reporting to the Controller, this hands‑on role is responsible for managing Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable operations and maintaining financial records and reconciliations. How You Will Be Making An Impact Assist in month‑end and year‑end closing processes, including journal entries and accruals. Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial data. Maintain and update the fixed asset register, ensuring all additions, disposals, and transfers are properly recorded. Support audits with documentation and process improvements. Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures. Prepare and submit sales tax and other required filings. Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable operations. Prepare weekly and ad‑hoc payment runs. Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls. What Success Looks Like Accurate and timely financial reporting that supports business decisions. Compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and audit requirements. Streamlined accounting processes that improve efficiency and reduce errors. Strong internal controls that protect SMG’s financial integrity. Trusted financial insights that contribute to organizational growth. What Skills and Experience are Required 3‑5 years of progressive accounting experience. Strong knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial sales taxes (GST/HST, PST). Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks). Advanced Excel skills with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
