The Opportunity: Solvest is seeking a highly motivated Licensed Electrical Engineer (P.Eng), with ample experience in the utility and/or renewables sector, to join our growing team. At this time, we are only pursuing candidates with their P.Eng designation in electrical engineering and with past work experience in utility/renewables. Reporting to our Principal Engineer, you will ensure the accurate design of the electrical scope of large projects so that projects are completed safely, on budget and on schedule. You will also facilitate the distribution of technical knowledge throughout the company so that we can continuously improve on project sales, construction and aftercare. This is a unique hybrid / remote position that allows the successful candidate to work remotely from anywhere in Canada, or from our offices in Whitehorse, Yukon or Cobourg, Ontario. With a strong foundation in design, review, and stamping of electrical drawings, you excel at assessing risks strategically, communicating effectively across disciplines, and developing inventive solutions that drive project success. Employment Status: Permanent Full Time – 36 hours per week Wage Range: $105,000 - $130,000 per year (based on experience) + annual profit-sharing bonus based on company performance. Job Description (high level summary - not inclusive of all duties): Develop electrical designs, specifications, and schematics for renewable energy and systems such as photovoltaic (PV) solar, EV charging, battery storage systems, wind, and grid integration. Perform electrical system analysis, load flow studies, fault analysis, and reliability assessments to ensure system stability and efficiency. Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, reports, and proposals for renewable energy projects. Provide support during all project phases, from feasibility studies to commissioning and operational handover. Ensure that designs adhere to industry standards, local codes, and regulations. Support the preparation of regulatory submissions and assist with compliance audits. Work closely with other engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with renewable energy projects. Identify and resolve electrical engineering challenges that may arise during project execution or in existing systems. Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve renewable energy designs and operational efficiency. Review the selection of electrical materials and equipment during procurement for large projects to ensure they comply with design drawings and Canadian Electrical Code or other standards in the project jurisdiction. Support and mentor project managers and EITs in the planning and construction of large projects with a focus on the electrical scope of work. Manage third-party engineering contractors performing specialized work such as System Impact Studies, Temporary Overvoltage studies, grounding studies, etc. Act as the main point of contact for clients, vendors, contractors and regulators for electrical design questions and issues. Collaborate with the Construction and Service departments to develop commissioning processes and tasks and client handover packages for large projects. Collaborate with the Construction team to identify, develop and review Safe Work Practices. Sign and seal electrical engineering drawings for Solvest projects where third-party engineering contractors are not used. Required Skills/Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Minimum of 5-7 years’ professional experience in electrical engineering with experience with medium voltage, utility interconnection and the solar industry required. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in a Canadian jurisdiction with eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Strong understanding of electrical power systems, grid integration, and renewable energy technologies. Experience with electrical design software such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, and similar tools. Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code and relevant renewable energy standards, codes, and regulations. Knowledge of SCADA systems, control systems, and energy storage technologies. Proficiency in performing load flow analysis, fault analysis, and other electrical system studies. Attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Sound judgment in technical matters to solve complex electrical and technical problems and to make practical recommendations. Demonstrated knowledge of industry best practice engineering standards used in the design, construction, and commissioning of construction projects. Ability to work within cross-functional teams and independently. Enthusiastic towards the environment, green energy, and the position.
