Position Details MDA Space seeks an Electrical Engineer for the MTS/Engineer level in the field of Electrical Systems EMI/EMC Design and/or EMI/EMC System / Sub‑System Testing & Debugging on the Robotics & Space Operations team at the Brampton office. The candidate will support the Electrical Engineering Department across the Logistics & Sustaining Engineering (L&SE) program, the Gateway External Robotics System (GERS) program, planetary/lunar rover programmes and R&D activities. Duties And Responsibilities Conduct EMI/EMC testing of avionics and systems per MIL‑STD‑461/DO‑160/IEC 61000 standards and apply EMI/EMC design principles. Operate test equipment such as logic analyzers, network analyzers, TDRs, VNAs, power amplifiers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes and EMI receivers. Plan, organize and lead test and measurement campaigns to characterize electromagnetic fields—power density, E‑field, H‑field, spectral analysis, time‑domain measurements—to verify compliance. Produce detailed scientific reports and develop mitigation guidance for EMC hazards. Perform research, modelling and simulation of electromagnetics for aerospace and related electronic industries. Develop and validate electromagnetic‑effects software for integrated model‑based systems engineering. Provide expertise in high‑speed signal EMC/EMI design, simulation, test and troubleshooting. Execute radiated and conducted emission measurements at the system integration level and identify sources using near‑field probes. Review board layouts and propose solutions to reduce electromagnetic emissions. Write, review and verify EMC test specifications, procedures and reports. Analyze and mitigate EMI/EMC risks for new designs and manage the EMC laboratory, including an open‑field site and a semi‑anechoic chamber. Participate in technical and quality assurance meetings with customers to establish requirements and resolve testing and certification issues. Perform mathematical calculations to analyze test results and support system‑level electrical specifications. Conduct design reviews based on fundamental electrical and electronic engineering principles. Create test profiles in Nexio BAT‑EMC, R&S Elektra, EMC32, TDK, TILE and EMC Test Automation Software. Demonstrate proficiency in concept and detailed electrical systems design, power analysis and electrical calculations. Design low‑noise analog circuits, sensor front‑ends, filtering and data acquisition systems. Design high‑speed digital and analog boards, including schematic entry, circuit simulation, worst‑case analysis and PWB layout. Utilize electrical CAD tools such as ORCAD, Altium, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB and PSPICE for testing and debugging of CCAs. Develop and verify system‑level electrical specifications and requirements. Present technical information to customers (e.g., CSA, NASA) for design reviews. Maintain strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication and organizational skills. Must Have Design, development and verification of electrical systems from planning to execution. Experience with EMI/EMC testing of avionics per MIL‑STD‑461/DO‑160/IEC 61000 standards. Qualification testing process experience. General understanding of power, grounding and bonding architectures at the system level. Knowledge of test equipment calibration requirements. Proficient use of EMI test equipment: digital multimeter, oscilloscope, function generator, power amplifiers, spectrum analyzers, EMI receivers, time‑domain FFT receiver, ESD gun. Understanding of antenna theory, patterns and beam‑width interpretation. Capability to run emission and susceptibility tests using NEXIO BAT‑EMC software. Strong interpersonal skills, self‑starter ethic and dedication to meet project deadlines. Highly motivated, enthusiastic and positive thinker. Nice To Have Organized self‑starter with attention to detail. Experience with MS Excel, Visio, VBA, NI LabVIEW, NI VISA and remote control of test instruments via SCPI. EMI/EMC test setup design experience. Computer networking and TCP/IP knowledge. Experience writing, reviewing and verifying EMC test specifications and reports. Experience with Electrical CAD tools: ORCAD, AutoCAD, MATLAB, PSPICE. Familiarity with the space environment considered an asset. Experience working with external test houses. Ability to propose design alternatives for better electrical interface capabilities for payloads. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, Systems Engineering or Physics. Five or more years’ experience in an electrical systems or related role. Strong oral, written and verbal communication skills. Result‑oriented with excellent critical‑thinking abilities. Team player demonstrating high integrity. Ability to work well in a dynamic environment with specific requirements. Comments / Special Considerations Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP). Compensation & Benefits The compensation range for this position is $95,000 – $125,000 annually, with an additional $2,500 referral bonus.
