Most premature mortality is attributable to lack of screening and delay in diagnosis. Yet, screening and diagnosing CVD amongst postpartum women in primary health care settings (where women go to see family doctor/nurse practitioner) remains challenging. The research manager will work with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Rubee Dev, to support her program of research in optimizing postpartum women’s cardiovascular health. The preliminary phase of the study will be mainly to develop and validate a CVD risk prediction model. This CVD risk prediction model once developed and validated will be translated into web-based risk prediction tool that can be implemented in the routine primary health care settings.A highly motivated, experienced Research Manager (RM) is needed for a program of research broadly directed at promoting postpartum women’s cardiovascular health. The primary focus of this position will be as a RM to support a series of coordinated projects focused on (a) developing and validation CVD risk prediction model, (b) examining the feasibility and acceptability of the risk prediction tool, and (c) examining the effectiveness of implementing tool in the primary care settings. This 1-year position (with the possibility of extension) involves the collaboration of researchers, frontline care providers (e.g., physicians, nurses), clinical specialists (cardiologists), patients and families. The RM will be responsible for the overall planning, management, and coordination of coordinated studies related to this program of research. In addition, the RM will contribute to the planning and management of other studies led by the research team focusing on promotion of cardiovascular health. The RM will provide leadership to research staff on the team, oversee conceptual analyses of data, preparation of manuscripts, reports, and additional research proposals. The RM will be based at the UBC School of Nursing in Vancouver, BC, with occasional travel between sites in the Lower Mainland of BC. **Organizational Status** The Research Manager will report directly to Principal Investigator, Dr. Rubee Dev. Research staff and trainees will report directly to the RM, who will oversee the recruitment, hiring and work of the RAs and contractors. The RM will be responsible for planning, managing and handling all communications related to the research with a network of team members based across Canada, including other university researchers, policy partners, and community stakeholders. **Work Performed**## Research Program Development:* Identify areas for future research and possible funding sources* Provide leadership for grant proposal development, submission processes, ensuring that funding agency requirements and deadlines are met## ## Strategic Project Leadership:* Set priorities and goals for the research program, in conjunction with Principal Investigator and Co-investigators* Work closely and communicate regularly with the 10+ research team members who are based at various universities, health care agencies, and government departments* Coordinate and manage the research project(s), enacting leadership for all communication activities, exercising professional judgment and initiative.* Negotiate ethics protocols and relationships with community partners, specifically developing and negotiating MOUs with partners as needed* Develop, implement, and maintain collaborative research protocols with community partners* Coordinate regular updates and reporting to funding partners* Plan and organize research team meetings at academic and community sites* Supervise the documentation of decisions related to research analysis and data collection plans, team communications, and community relations* Submit and update ethics applications and monitor research ethics procedures, to be coordinated across multiple university ethics boards* Exercise independence and initiative in the overall coordination and management of the program of research* Manage the UBC research office, including the set up and maintenance of files, data tracking and storage procedures, etc.* Prepare and monitor budgets and provide forecasting; implement cost-effective measures to optimize budget utilization* Ensure timely notification to Principal Investigators of issues or problem## Data Management, Analysis, and Supervision of Research Staff:* Oversee data management, in consultation with the Principal Investigators and designated Co- Investigators; data will be quantitative and qualitative and will be derived from primary and secondary sources* Collaborate with Principal Investigators for hiring research assistants, trainees, and contractors* Provide supervision and training to research assistants, trainees, and contractors* Participate in interpretation of data for research team and prepare research findings for dissemination for a variety of audiences* Oversee the conceptual analysis of qualitative and quantitative data* Conduct data coding and analysis in collaboration with the research team, supervising coding and analysis activities conducted by research assistants, trainees, and contractors* Ensure that quantitative and qualitative data quality are maintained throughout all aspects of data collection, processing, and management* Accountable for the work completed by research assistants, trainees, contractors, and other staff* Manage research staff engaged in the coding and analysis of data## Knowledge Translation and Exchange (KTE):* Oversee research assistants and trainees in conducting literature reviews, providing leadership in the review of extant scholarship, identifying and selecting relevant theoretical and empirical materials relevant to the study* Synthesize and apply relevant literature in the interpretation of research findings, developing written reviews of literature needed to support specific projects* Develop funder-, community-, and policy-oriented reports, academic papers, policy papers, press releases, and presentations* Collaborate with our knowledge users and partners in planning, organizing, and implementing KTE activities and materials* Develop and maintain an up-to-date project website, managing content and promoting the site to increase traffic**Consequence of Error/Judgement** The quality and productivity of the research project(s), performance of research
