Alpha drives performance through its core strength of integrating data insights, human ingenuity, automation consistency and smart algorithms to drill the best wells, every time.The Senior Drilling Optimization Engineer supports Precision’s Alpha Technologies product line by working closely with the customer, Precision’s Alpha Remote Operating Center, Rig Automation Engineers, Sales and Operations teams to gain a thorough understanding of the customer’s objectives and ensure Precision delivers high performance high value across Canada and US operations.This is a hands-on technical position with the responsibility to perform detailed engineering analysis. This position is responsible for the early detection of drilling hazards and the development of recommendations for optimizing drilling operations. Focusing on the entire well construction process to identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency through analysis of on-bottom and flat time operations activities by utilizing pre-determined event fingerprinting, data validation, and Well Engineering & Project Management best practices.ResponsibilitiesCustomer InterfaceUnderstand our customer’s drilling challenges and identify specific Alpha technologies to provide value focused solutionsWork closely with our customer to determine objectives and performance goals of drilling programsIn collaboration with our customer, develop and monitor Alpha performance road mapsMonitor active drilling projects seeking opportunities to deliver value to our customersSupport customer performance improvement initiativesWork closely with the customer and rig automation team to support deployment of new ApplicationsSupport the development of new applications by integrating customer feedback with well construction and drilling engineering best practicesSupport Precision Operations teams in Alpha new product roll-outOperationsMonitor real-time data throughout drilling operations for assigned rig linesPerform T&D modeling and analysis to develop recommendations.Learn and assist with recognizing trends in real-time data which relate to improvement opportunities or health of the well and the avoidance of drilling hazardsDevelop daily reports with remote operations center, which include essential measured data and descriptions on activities, trends, and recommendations for improvementsCollect and apply drilling data to operations improvement (both real-time and recorded)Assist with and ensure PD essential personnel have access to real-time information or are informed in a timely manner of improvement opportunities or trends that suggest potential drilling hazardsAssist field operations personnel with data analysis and decision-making in addition to assisting customers on the use of apps related to Rig AutomationProvide support to operations as required, including after-hours supportTravel to field location as required to support operations and performance improvement effortsKeep up to date and review new data acquisition technology for possible application to the rigs continuous improvement by using Alpha Remote Operations Process to circulate information about best practices, lessons learned and technical alertsGuide Drilling Optimization Engineer’s development through mentoring.Develop training materialsDevelop standard work practices for the Optimization RoleKnowledge & SkillsAdvanced understanding of fundamentals of drilling practices and proceduresAdvanced understanding of down-hole tools and technologyAdvanced understanding of directional drilling practicesAdvanced ability to interpret changes in multiple time and/or depth-based measurements and how it can be used to recognize improvement opportunities or mitigate hazardsIntermediate understanding of data acquisition systems, measurement devices, data transmission, wellsite data sources and transmission timesIntermediate understanding of data analytics tools and approaches.Ability and willingness to learn through practical on the job training (both office and field)Exceptional interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to work with diverse professionals comprising of clients, stakeholders, vendors, operations team, rig team and engineering peersContribute to sustaining a positive, progressive, and supportive team environmentEducationBachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited UniversityEIT or P.
