At our home in downtown London, we create productions on two stages: the Spriet Stage (839 seats) and the Auburn Developments Stage (144 seats). The Grand season of theatrical offerings runs from September to May. The Grand is committed to developing and premiering new, original works and supporting the growth and reach of theatre writers and creators. A cornerstone of the organization is our place as a teaching theatre, exemplified in our many mentorship programs and highlighted in our annual Grand Theatre High School Project. As the only program of its kind in the country and currently in its twenty‑sixth year, the High School Project involves as many as one hundred high school participants annually from schools across the region. These students participate at no cost and take on roles both on stage and off, in a fully realized mainstage production under the direction of a professional creative team. THE OPPORTUNITY The Grand is seeking a hands‑on, deadline‑driven Finance Associate. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Finance, the Finance Associate is responsible for the weekly payroll cycle, journal entries, and accounts payable related to payroll activities. The Finance Associate plays an integral part in the input, processing, and maintenance of the theatre’s accounting records, payroll processing, and group benefits administration. The Finance Associate is a self‑motivated, meticulous teammate who lives and breathes finance, and payroll. This individual is interested in understanding how the finance function integrates with the organization and its overall impact. This position requires someone who can manage priorities, work well under tight payroll deadlines, all while having a high level of attention to detail. The candidate will excel at internal customer service, supporting the work of the theatre in all areas. Key Responsibilities Payroll Process weekly payroll including: all union dues, benefits, and RRSP deductions, all input, balancing, and maintenance. Entry of payroll journal entries into the general ledger. Manage employee insurance and benefits plans and benefits records. Other payroll related activities including ROE, filings, T4, T4A, etc. Process government and union remittances. Complete payroll and remittances coding, entries and balancing. Ensure payroll practices comply with collective agreements, including wage scales, overtime rules, and shift premiums. Verify and reconcile timesheets before payroll processing. Track and manage vacation, sick leave, and other union‑negotiated leave entitlements. Other Financial Responsibilities Periodically assist with Accounts Payable. Assist with the preparation of the annual financial audit. Stay current withemployment standards, tax changes, and union‑related legislation. Maintain detailed records and audit trails for compliance and internal controls. Provide strong, collaborative internal customer service. Additional tasks as required. Qualifications 2 or more years of professional accounting/finance experience, and/or a post‑secondary certificate/diploma, preferably with payroll experience. Experience working in a mixed union and non‑union environment. Passion or interest for theatre and the performing arts. Experience working in a not‑for‑profit environment considered an asset. Technology competencies include: experience with payroll systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred), business accounting software (ActivityHD preferred but not required; Microsoft Excel required), and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Office, Teams and, Zoom. Excellent interpersonal skills and a problem‑solving mindset. Ability to efficiently manage priorities and work accurately under tight deadlines. Ability to work tactfully and diplomatically while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality. Experience working with union agreements in a payroll context is an asset. This post is a full‑time position, beginning January 2026 (with flexibility). The Finance Associate reports directly to the Senior Manager of Finance and works closely with the Finance Assistant, the senior leadership team, and all employees. Our work environment is primarily in‑person at 471 Richmond Street in downtown London, Ontario. Work hours are 35 hours per week, and typically are 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility. Salary range is between $50,000‑55,000 per annum, commensurate with skills & experience.
