The Department’s mission is to provide exemplary care for Toronto’s inner city population, and our members are dedicated to caring for children who are vulnerable or whose social circumstances may provide barriers that impact their overall health and development. The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Clinic is a MOH funded assessment clinic within St. Michael’s Hospital. This clinic draws on the unique strengths, experiences, and contributions of a multidisciplinary team in order to provide comprehensive diagnostic assessments to children who have been exposed to alcohol in-utero. By identifying children with FASD, the team can then collaborate to provide expert recommendations to care partners for the ongoing care, support, and treatment of these children and their families. Responsibilities As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) will be responsible for providing testing, diagnostic clarification, and treatment recommendations to patients, families, and providers to contribute to clinical management of patients. The SLP will participate in education/teaching, research, quality improvement, and program evaluation initiatives. Other activities include: Reviewing cases and documentation as part of the intake/triage process Providing clinical consultation internally on client cases, recommending therapeutic approaches and clinical pathways for patients with FASD Writing reports and completing timely and relevant documentation according to policies and standards of practice of Unity Health and the College of Audiologists and Speech‑Language Pathologists of Ontario; collaborating with internal/external health care providers and communicating both verbally and in writing with stakeholders Providing continuity of care to individuals receiving services throughout their time with the FASD clinic; ensuring maintenance of therapeutic relationship with the team Working with clients and their families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, addressing diversity in assessments and recommendations Advocating for clients on a systems level as necessary Maintaining workload measurement statistics as necessary Qualifications Registrant in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech‑Language Pathologists of Ontario required Masters degree in Speech‑Language Pathology required Two years of clinical experience with school‑aged children Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive standardized and informal assessments, provide recommendations and consultation. Standardized assessments used in this Clinic include but are not limited to: OWLS‑II, CASL‑2, TNL‑2, SLDT, CAPs, TILLS, and CELF‑P3 Ability to manage a busy caseload independently, and complete necessary paperwork and documentation effectively and promptly Competence in trauma‑informed care Ability to work collaboratively within an interprofessional team Demonstrated strengths in assessment, consultation, and teaching Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality record Role Details This 0.2 FTE is an in‑person role with required attendance at our downtown clinic on Fridays.
