Regulatory Compliance Officer

Overview CPA Ontario is currently in search of a Regulatory Compliance Officer who will be responsible for assisting with the development and maintenance of quality control, and risk assessment and mitigation processes for the Registrar's Office. Reporting to the Director of Regulatory Compliance, you will lead operational reviews to assess Members’ and Firms’ compliance with regulatory obligations and recommend regulatory action when warranted. Key Responsibilities Review and make recommendations on complex matters involving the interpretation of Bylaws, Regulations and Rules of Professional Conduct and assess the Registrar’s compliance with statutory and regulatory responsibilities. Assist with the establishment, maintenance and effectiveness of systems, processes, policies and procedures for appropriate oversight of members and firms and internal controls over revenue processes, including ad‑hoc requests, research and appeals of Registrar decisions. Work with the Licensure team and the Public Accounting Licensing Board (PALB) on non‑routine matters and reviews of PALB decisions. Collaborate in the development and implementation of compliance review and regulatory audit programs to provide appropriate levels of regulatory scrutiny to areas of regulatory risk. Support guidance for members and firms and outreach strategies to foster compliance with Bylaws, Regulations and Rules of Professional Conduct and liaise with other business units to facilitate effective communication to members and firms. Collaborate on business planning initiatives, identify regulatory best practices, prepare detailed information and assumptions in support of forecasts and budgets and monthly variance reporting, and develop an understanding of revenue drivers and trends to identify opportunities for reporting enhancements, including the use of data analytics tools. Provide information, reports and assistance to other business units to fulfill CPA Ontario’s statutory reporting and compliance requirements related to Registrar functions. Analyze data to understand problems and opportunities for improved regulatory oversight. Identify opportunities to enhance the delivery of the Member regulatory experience, including liaising with other teams within the Regulatory & Standards framework. Innovate regulatory processes through the use of technologies, such as RPA and AI, to improve operational efficiencies and member and firm experience. Assist the Registrar’s Office on special projects and other initiatives assigned. Qualifications A post‑secondary graduate who has completed the CPA program and is a CPA member in good standing with 3 to 5 years of post‑qualification work experience in a public accounting firm, regulatory body or corporate environment. Experience within a regulatory or compliance environment is preferred. Skilled and experienced at organizing and reviewing complex regulatory matters and issues with a thorough understanding of CPA Ontario’s regulatory regime for members, firms and public accounting. Strong communication (verbal and written), with excellent presentation, customer service, relationship building and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively while briefing executive management on complex matters. Familiar with AI methodologies and technologies and have previous experience with budget and forecasting. Digitally fluent with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI or other data analytics tools is highly preferred. Prior experience with Salesforce is an asset. A proactive, self‑starter with positive energy and drive for continuous improvement with the proven ability to work in a fast‑paced, high volume, deadline‑oriented environment with multiple conflicting priorities.
