The company is founder-led, profitable, and growing.We are hiring a Software Engineer for Ceph & Distributed Storage. As part of Cloud Engineering, you will build modelling software to drive systems such as OpenStack, Ceph, and Kubernetes with a focus on distributed storage. You will engineer solutions to scale in production, collaborating with field teams to meet customer needs adopting cutting-edge technology. Canonical is a globally distributed team of engineers who work well in that context.This role involves international travel several times a year, usually for one week at a time.Location: This role will be based remotely in the EMEA or the Americas regions.What your day will look likeWrite high-quality, maintainable Python and Golang softwareCollaborate proactively with a globally distributed teamDebug issues and deliver high-quality code to fix themContribute to technical documentation that defines best practices for authoring high-quality operatorsDiscuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutionsDevelop and maintain software for delivery, operations, and lifecycle management of Ceph storageWhat we are looking for in youBachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, STEM, or a related fieldExperience writing modern, maintainable PythonExperience with Ceph storagePassion for technology and collaborating with brilliant peopleCurious, flexible, articulate, and accountableValue soft skills; is self-motivated, enterprising, and thoughtfulInterest and experience with two or more of the following: Linux, Kubernetes, Public cloud, OpenStack, LXD/LXC, Python, Go, Debian packagingStrong academic record from high school and university (preferred)Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal eventsAdditional skills you might bringExperience operating Ceph clusters in productionExperience with open source distributed storage such as Gluster, Minio, Mayastor, or similarWhat we offerWe consider geographical location, experience, and performance in shaping compensation worldwide.
