Join to apply for the Litigation Paralegal role at BMO. The Litigation Paralegal works in collaboration with paralegals, law clerks and lawyers supporting Canadian Personal and Commercial Banking. This role is open in Montreal and Toronto and bilingualism is required. The role demands working in a complex and changing environment where legal, regulatory and reputational risks must be constantly considered. It requires handling sensitive and confidential customer and bank information with discretion, exercising sound judgment, organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines. The paralegal communicates and maintains relationships with the legal team, other colleagues within the bank’s Legal and Regulatory Compliance Group, internal clients and external counsel. Accountabilities Handles daily internal inquiries from business and stakeholders, providing practical legal advice and triaging when necessary. Approaches matters on a risk‑based basis and efficiently advises on topics such as production orders, subpoenas, garnishments, Mareva, Norwich, estates, POA and fraud. Performs legal research using various tools. Manages or oversees less complex litigation matters, including small claims. Supports and prepares witnesses. Works independently on special projects related to legal and regulatory matters. Collaborates with and supports internal counsel. Assists with regular reporting and prepares related presentation material. Qualifications 7+ years of experience. Strong technology skills, including iManage, OneDrive, SharePoint, Relativity, MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Westlaw. Knowledge of civil and common law is a strong asset. Ability to review pleadings and documents, communicate effectively with legal and non‑legal staff, filter reports for distribution and complete assigned special projects. Experience in legal research, summarizing documents and data analysis. Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. High attention to detail; often the first or sole legal professional to assess a matter. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Superior matter management, organizational skills and writing abilities. Capability to receive general direction and run projects independently. Comfortable in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment. Fluent in English and French. Salary: $69,000.00 – $129,000.00 (adjusted for location, skills and experience) Pay Type: Salaried Benefits include health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, retirement savings plans and potential performance‑based incentives.
